JP: I had other plans for my day, that is until I started reading this book. I need to know what's going to happen next.

Joel Butler: One of the best hero novels I have read in a long time. Hope you enjoy it like I did!

I have a new favorite indie author. I'm obsessed. Hero is not the first word that comes to mind when you hear Necromancer. Yet, Damian Banach is the first "Crow" to be admitted into the Academy of Heroes.

What I liked:
I love this dystopic take on the superhero genre. Nothing is shiny and perfect. Being a superhero has definite drawbacks which makes the whole thing interesting on its own. Damian is the first necromancer admitted into the academy. No of his classmates want him to be there thinking that he would go crazy and kill them all, but eventually, he begins to make friends despite his best efforts to do otherwise. The character arc was really well done. I was rooting for Damian throughout the story. The world-building was done very well. Excellent editing and story structures. Just well done all around.

What I didn't like:
I loved the whole thing. There is nothing that I didn't like about this story.

Overall:
If you like superhero stories, you will love this one. It's original, gritty, and just a lot of fun to read. I have put the sequel on my TBR.

Slade Grayson: I almost gave up after the first couple of chapters…

But there was enough there to keep me going. Enough of an interesting setting and backstory for the main character. And once the main character made it to superhero school (a.k.a. “The Academy”), the story shifts into high gear. It got so good that I bought the sequel before I was finished with book 1.

Yeah, I liked it that much.

Look, there aren’t many books that hold my interest these days. I find many of them meander too much, or I just don’t care about any of the characters. Even the ones that I follow to the end… Sometimes I feel like I’m just reading it out of routine.

But this book? This book had me looking forward to the next chapter, the next plot point, the next twist.

Okay, so I’ve read some of the other reviews that criticize the main character and how he (at least in the first half of the book) objectifies women. This hit a bit close to home because I read a lot of the same criticism about my own superhero novel.***

***No, I’m not going to name my book. The point isn’t to market my own work.

The point is, much of the same criticism I’ve seen...

Gerald McKim: I really enjoyed this unique story. A young man’s coming of age story told from a position of horrific life conditions, as the anti-hero Damian deals with his magical world. Chris Tullbane creates a fantasy world based on good versus evil magic which Damian has to survive. Tullbane employs team building story telling to bring Damian out of his shell and into the magical world he copes with. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Matt: This was a refreshing take on post apocalyptic fiction with super heroes and black hats. The world building is incredible as is the fleshed out characters. Great action, laugh out loud moments and gritty drama. Can't wait for book 2

O.L.D.: I found this series because I'd enjoyed another one the author wrote. They are totally different from one another yet both are equally entertaining. I'll now be reading this author's entire repertoire and I suggest you do the same.

DreddPIrateBob: I've burned through the trilogy now and can absolutely say READ THESE DAMNED BOOKS. They take every boring trope of young-hero-discovers-hes-magic-goes-to-magic-school-and-saves-the-world and beats them to death, laughing maniacally as they do it. The tale is dark and full of woe but it's also beautiful and heart-warming and cruel and caring. Every teenager should read it and every old adult like me should too. Cleverly written and cleverly witty; the humanity at the core of the story shines through. Read the damn book. It'll stay with me for a long time and I wouldn't have it any other way.
And I cried at the end, not because of the ending but because the ride was over. And that's the sign of a damn good book.
Read the damn book

Amazon Customer: The over-use of foreshadowing and/or broadcasting future events may have been unnecessary, but the characters were relatable and distinct, and the story made sense - things I am having trouble finding in many other Kindle Unlimited books…

Arundeepak J: 5/5

This book was a fun read which contains elements from Super Powereds and MHA but never felt like a ripoff.

The main character, Damian was witty and sometimes frustrating but never was a bore to read.

I genuinely have no idea why this book isn't talked around much.

A really good Super Hero book
