Philips Norelco Electric Shaver 7700 with Precision Trimmer for Close Shaves

The D'sThe D's: I’ve owned a number of similar products before but none as good as this one! The cleaning and lubricating stand is amazing. I’ve noticed that it gets more of the hair out than simply using isopropyl alcohol. You can also tell it runs very smoothly after cleaning it (I recommend cleaning after every use!). At first I went every other shave before cleaning it but it noticed it worked SO much better after shaving. The cleaning cycle lasts maybe 30 seconds. I would also recommend letting the razor dry in the cleaning stand so that you don’t waste the cleaning solution to drops on the counter and ground. The cleaning solution is expensive.

The traveling case is a big plus because then it doesn’t get turned on in your bag while you travel (GETTING YOUR BAG FLAGED BY TSA). The app is a neat touch to help you learn how to cause less irritation when you shave. The charging chord does not come with a wall block, but it uses a basic USB wall block. I shave both my neck and my bald head with this daily and have no issues with razor burn. The charge will last me 3-4 days, but I would imagine if you’re only shaving your face that it would last even...

Brandon Kovash: For the price, I had expected a bit of a closer shave than what it does. It definitely doesn't leave your face silky smooth, but it does a good job at a consistent somewhat-smooth shave.

Compared to a cheaper model of the Philips Norelco brand, this doesn't seem to offer any crazy features, or even a better shave. I've had closer shaves, with smoother skin from a cheaper model of the Norelco electric razors, so I'm still a little hesitant on the higher price-point. As I don't see much of anything that really makes it stand out compared to others.

The app is a little barebones, but it does offer some neat features that some might find fun/useful. There's an AR beard portion of the app, that lets you use your phones front-facing camera to let you see what different styles of beards/facial hair might look like on your own face. There are "guided shaves" which somewhat help you to achieve the desired shave outcome (smoother skin, less irritation, less red marks, etc). These features are nice to have, but the "guided shaves" feature seems to be a little lacking, in terms of actual helpfulness on how to shave. It basically monitors your speed/rotation,...

PaladinPaladin: A comparison of these two shavers since both are Bluetooth-enabled and use Philips' GroomTribe app. Both are actually excellent rotary shavers as far as performance, and both are fairly recent (within a couple of years) shavers in Philips' lineup. The GroomTribe app itself was released in Jan 2020. We’ll get back to the “why” of a shaving app later, but these shavers are among the limited number of PN’s shavers that use an app to both coach shaving technique and control the shavers.

The S7940 is the more “conventional” Philips shaver, with rounded heads and a detachable trimmer. The S7782 has a distinctly “squared off” look, and a flip-top head as well as an integral trimmer harkening back to the early days of Philips rotaries. The S7940 uses the dual-cutter SH70/52 head with specially coated “Anti-Friction” rings. It provides a fairly close shave, and actually feels similar to the SH98/72 head of Philips’ flagship Series 9000 Prestige shavers.
