Craig Bolon: Philips models AT830 and 6948XL are among the most useful of current rotary shavers. Both have articulated cutting heads in 3-head assemblies that are imbedded in shaver bodies rather than in floating holders. Both have internal batteries and wide, pop-up trimmers. Neither comes with a charging stand. A battery charge is rated to provide 50 minutes use with model AT830 and 35 minutes use with model 6948XL.
Intermediate-priced model AT830 has a lithium-ion battery, has cutting heads mounted in a rocking holder and is waterproof, allowing wet shaving. It comes with an external 15 volt, 5 watt AC-to-DC power converter that charges the battery in an hour or less. Indicator lights show when the battery needs charging and when it is fully charged. Model AT830 uses the newer HQ8 heads that provide somewhat closer shaves.
Value-priced model 6948XL has a nickel-metal-hydride battery, has cutting heads mounted in a fixed holder and is not waterproof, providing only dry shaving. It connects directly to AC power. Its internal power converter takes a rated 8 hours to charge the battery. There are no battery indicator lights, so users guess when the battery needs charging and time...

Carter Slade: When I purchased this Philips Norelco 830/ 41 Aquatic Power Touch Electric Razor I was not happy to do so; but I was sick and tired of how expensive it was to buy replacement blades for my manual razor. For $25.00 I could get 5 razor blades and that was if they were on sale. I figured that if I spent what I would normally spend on blade in a year and bought an electric razor I would spend a lot less money. Now ten months after my purchase I have come to realize that it was money well spent.
When I ordered my electric razor and tried it for the first time I was not happy with it at all! I thought that I was careful with my decision making process and read several reviews before deciding on which electric razor to purchase. I was just a stone's throw away from sending it back before I had a moment of clarity. I had not owned an electric razor in over 20 years and in that time the technology had changed and I should take some time to learn to use my new electric razor before I passed judgment so I kept it.
