The back is completely assembled except for attaching to the seat which is quite easy. Ass noted it is sturdy. We have had 3 of these. The past two lasted about five years. The only reason we got new ones is the larger seat developed small cracks. Not enough to cause a fall, but maybe a pinch.

Keith B.:
We had two shower chairs that were five or six years old. The feet were falling apart and I worried about the metal becoming brittle with so much water, moisture and chemical exposure so I decided it was time for two new chairs.
I picked this style/model because I trust the spring snap clip method of extending the legs. It's the same mechanism that every walker I've owned and used has had. Another style that some chairs have is a metal post on a plastic clip that encircles the leg. I don't like that, it just doesn't seem as sturdy and trustworthy as the style I'm used to. I did buy the chair with attached sliding bench because at the time that was the only way to get the heavy duty bariatric support and latching methods I wanted. Since both of our showers have doors and we're both still able to step into the shower physically I removed the bench sections and kept the chairs.
Assembly is simple and easy (as long as you're not taking them apart like I did) they come in two pieces. The base and the back. All you have to do is spread the bars of the back and slide them into the loops on the underside of the seat. Press in the locking pins and slide them...

Tina E: I have heard horror stories from nurses of bath benches collapsing under people that weigh far less than the bench's capacity so, being disabled, I went with this heavy duty one. I don't like the chair back because it restricts your movement if you have a bad leg or legs so I wouldn't bother snapping it on if your disability is (like me) also in your legs. The bench is VERY sturdy, has no slippage, and makes me feel secure. There is no assembly required other than snapping on the chair back should you choose to use it so that is another plus. Overall, I highly recommend this bath bench.

kennedydogs: My dad has neuropathy in both legs, mobility issues and is a large guy. He purchased a previous shower chair that didn't last long before a leg bent -- making it dangerous and useless. I did some research and decided to order this bench. So glad I did. It is a bit pricey but so worth the money. Very sturdy and Dad really likes the longer seat. It's been in use for six months with no problems and Dad's safe and happy.

Thank You: Bought this in 2020 this is now 2023 and I thank God for it everyday. I don't have to step over tub I didn't have to redo my whole bathroom this works perfectly. But because it is over the tub be careful of your shower curtain you may have to kind of sit on it so water does not run out.
