Amazon Customer: The last chair had a leg that splayed out. It made me nervous thinking someone might end up on the shower floor if any of the legs did that suddenly. So, the crossbars on this make me feel secure. The last chair was supposedly sufficient for our weight. But, this one should not be a problem at all. The back seemed like a good idea, but we have a small shower and we can't push the chair as far back as the old one. But it should be easy enough to take back off if we want to.

Mary: No words to describe this awesome seat. I had to get rid of my old seat due to the seat cracking, rusting, low seating, and having half of me sitting on the seat while the other half of me is hanging outside the seat as my backrest was not adjustable. So I ordered this seat. OMG what a difference it made. Assembling it together was not difficult. Only 2 pieces to join. As you assemble it remember to try sitting on it before you try it out in the shower so you can determine which height is right for you. I'm 5'6 so the lowest slot was for me. I do not know if someone who is 5'4 is right for this seat. If they added 1 more slot perhaps. I think this seat is fine for anyone who is 5'5 and above. I love the backseat because it is adjustable. So after I finished assembling I sat on it in the living room making sure height and backrest was a fine fit for me. Then came the test.. I used the shower seat for the first time and wow I felt safe due to the seat being sturdy. Want to add extra comfort, I recommend you get a shower seat cushion/pillow. I placed my pillow from the old seat to the new one. It made a huge difference. It was twice comfortable...

What can be said about a bariatric shower chair? If you need this (as I do), this is gonna work. It's utility is unquestionable. Sturdy, with tool less assembly and height adjustment for the seat and back positions, and you don't need much hand/finger strength to make any of the adjustments. The only thing to have concern with is whether it will fit in your tub/shower and still leave room for you to bathe; it is not any bigger than it has to be, and it's design is to safely support the very reason you're shopping for one of these. Aside from the seat back, this is a basic device without any frills.
I am 6' 5" and 450lbs, and a car accident left me with several thoracic and lumbar intervertebral discs in various damaged states, as well as a broken right elbow and torn finger cartilage. My dexterity, range of motion, and grip are a problem. Being big takes more time to properly bathe, and the limits on my dominant fingers/hand/wrist/elbow/shoulder add even more time. Add the back problems to it, and I just couldn't tolerate the pain long enough to remain standing for a proper shower. This allows me to sit down and take a break when I need to. With...

darcy:
After looking at a ton of different chair designs, initially we purchased two of the simple backless models. While I'm sure they would have worked well for someone who is small and very steady, we realized that a more substantial chair would be safer for our elderly relative. Having read reviews from others who mentioned that the legs on some chairs (NOT THIS ONE) would move and kind of splay out when someone sat on them, we chose this one with the additional crossbar design that keeps the legs firmly together even when a larger person sits on it. Also, the back is a great steadying feature. Oh, don't worry for even a moment about putting this together. The entire seat and legs portion arrives in a box fully assembled. All you have to do is slide the back on. You can choose one of two positions as you slide the back onto the base of the chair. Ingenious. Lightweight yet strong. Secure and comfortable, according to the patient. Money well spent!
UPDATE a year-plus later: This chair remains as solid, useful and as cosmetically perfect as it was the day we received it. Fits well in the tub and is light enough to move in and out of the bathroom as...

Carol: This Nova shower chair was well worth the money. Already assembled. If you want the back on, it’s simple to do. Adjusting the height was also easy to do. Solid/sturdy. Only have had it a week but so far very happy.
