Threw it out and just from time to time i do check the water on my own so i won't fry them.

Jacob G: The heater works fine but some of these people in the reviews are either not very well informed or the reason that “do not open door during flight” warnings exist on airplanes. Never plug an aquarium heater up and take it out of water. The air temperature will be lower in your house so the heater does what it’s suppose to do and turns on. If you are holding it guess what, you get burned, or could explode from the intense heat and yes if you let it heat up to boiling and drop it in water I bet it’ll sizzle. Cause you know, science. Water dissipates the heat which is how it works to warm your aquarium water. The heater works fine for a smaller nano aquarium and does what it is suppose to. Mine holds 77-78 with 80 setting on the dial. It’s normal for most heaters to be like this from my experience. I don’t see the problem here as I never plug anything into my reef and just forget it. Cheers

Desiree: I made the mistake of picking up a heater from Petco box said it was for a 10 gallon tank, well it was not. I could not get the tank over 66 degrees. I bought this heater because another reviewer had made the same mistake as me. This heater is great! This heater is adjustable, turns off when water hits desired temp. Love this heater, looks good in the tank to. I did not like the thermometer, but that's ok cause I already had a good one of those.

I.B.: After looking at the rip-offs at petco I decided to go online and take a chance for my fish.
I've gone through so many of these and this one is great. For the price it's amazing. I have a 10 gallon tank with several fish in it and I like to keep it around 79 to 82 degrees for which this is perfect. I submerged it near the bottom with suction cups and I haven't had any issues so far in several weeks. It stays stuck. The cord appears to be made well.
I just had to take one star off because the little temperature gauge that came with it does not work. Maybe it was broken but I really would have liked to have it.

Chas: so. Bought this a few months ago. Was working great!! Up until yesterday. About 4 days ago I was doing my weekly water change for my beta. Unplugged the filter to clean, the usual. This whole week the heater has not once turned on, and I’ve noticed my tank was incredibly cloudy, including the filter. My beta became lethargic, so did my snail. I’ve been keeping fish for 10 years, and never have I seen anything like this. I removed both my beta and snail, unplugged the filter and start doing another water change. The smell was horrific. As I’m removing the water, I continue to hear a gargle. ITS THE FILTER. the filter is unplugged, over heating, and about to explode. I waited a few minutes to see what it would do. No light, not plugged in, cord and heater dangling from my hand and it’s still gargling. It’s currently sitting in a bucket outside so my house doesn’t blow up, let alone my beta tank. Now my lethargic fish has to wait till tomorrow so I can go get him a new heater. I’m very upset right now. Not sure if I got a bad filter, but clearly I’m not the only one upset with it. 0/10
