I followed the directions and have experience with aquarium heaters but this one just doesn't work. I let it sit in the tank all day in case it was just incredibly slow to warm, but there was no difference in temperature by the end of the day. I'd be willing to try again with a new unit but it's not financially prudent for me to return it. It may be unfair to mention here as it's probably Amazons responsibility, but I want to warn people who may be in a similar position - I don't drive or live near any free drop off points. That leaves me to either: pay to get to a free drop off center, pay $6.99 to leave it at the closest place to me or have it picked up, or just eat the cost and throw it out. It wasn't a very costly item, but it's still an unfair situation and unfortunately leaves me with a bad impression of the brand/product.

Everything about this purchase had me hesitant. But I bought it anyway, after all I had already lost $25 and 2 fish in my Aqueon 3 gallon cube. At first I thought ok its been 16 hours and I'm up to 75.4 lol 😆 then I was like o well it's still cycling I will check back. Now we're on day 3 and I have checked this temp multiple times and it's exactly 78.1 degrees F. Therefore I have come to the conclusion that it does as it says. Yes it is preset but if you plan to just do plants and maybe a Betta you'll be happy with this purchase. I also have the 3 gallon filter they sell in the same tank. I traded the cartridge for a sponge and a spot for a carbon sponge. The Water is crystal clear and close to being ready for plants and a fish!!!!

The water temperature improved a lot my fish wellbeing. I can tell. It is started building bubble nest the day after I installed. For those who don't know, that's a sign of a healthy and happy Betta.

This heater was either broken from the start or so ineffective that it didn’t heat the water at all. The only way to get the tank temperature up in my 3.5 gallon tank was to turn the heat up in the room to an uncomfortable level. As soon as I could afford it, I replaced it with a completely different brand and style and threw this one in the trash.

I use this heater in my 3 gallon tank during the winter and late fall when my central heat is set to 72, its keeps my tank in-between 78-80. In the spring, summer and early fall I have to switch this heater out for a smaller one because the summer time temp in my house is 74-75 and this heater will heat a 3 gallon tank above 80. So plan on this heater heating your 3 gallon tank 8 degrees above room temperature. Would probably heat a 5 gallon 5 degrees above room temp. You cannot adjust the temperature of this heater. As for any review saying the heater killed their fish? Maybe they didn’t have the heater fully submerged in water? Place the heater in your tank and let it sit for 30 minutes before you plug it in and always unplug it at least 30 minutes before you plan to remove it from the tank.

I was excited because of the shape/size of the heater. The reviews said it was great for a 5 gallon tank. I received it, read directions then placed it in the tank. It hasn’t even heated at all. I unplugged it. Tried that, didn’t work. I read the directions again, nothing. So I unplugged the entire outlet and still nothing. Very disappointed and upset since I was lookin forward to this cute heater. I have a 5 gallon Marineland portrait tank, with a betta and 2 Scarlet Badis. I wish this was working. I would recommend doing research on heaters before getting this one
After contacting customer service, they replaced it entirely and ended up working decent. The pros of this product is that it’s skinny enough to hide, or submerge in the tank. When working, it does the job.
Cons, it’s unpredictable but at the end of the day it works
I do recommend this but with caution as it might be faulty
