barbara: Okay, I just finished installing the four alarms. A maddening experience. The instructions say the batteries must be activated first, so slide open the battery door. Um, nope. The battery door has a tiny, very stubborn screw which would not budge in spite of multiple, angry assaults with 3 different screwdrivers and a tiny Allen wrench. I finally just forcefully pried each battery door open with a flat point screwdriver. There is a little clear plastic strip over the batteries that is easily removed. Next is to test the battery and indeed I pushed the test buttons, and green lights came on. Yay! On 1 alarm, the batteries fell out, but I was able to replace them following the instruction picture. I was then able to install them in the doors and windows. The little arrows on each piece that must match are hard to see, and it would help to have them more visibly marked. I was pleased to try opening the doors and windows and hear the loud alarms. I do feel more secure! Just hope the information on installing will help others.

Lindsay Alessandrini: We were having an issue with my teenager leaving the house with friends past his curfew, so I purchased this to put on his door at bedtime. I put it on the outside of the door so that if he opened it, it would sound the alarm. The alarm is very loud and would wake you up if it went off in the night. Luckily my son corrected his issue and we don't have to stay at this heightened level of security, but I can always turn it on when needed because the sticky backing is of a very good quality. I know it will stay in place for a long time to come.

Barrowfordian: I live in a somewhat remote rural area, and in a house with a number of downstairs windows and doors. For security reasons, and following some minor thefts in other properties nearby, I needed either a full alarm system or individual alarms for windows and doors. I saw these, and thought I would give them a try.
There are two parts to each alarm - the main alarm and a smaller, magnetised piece that fits on either the door/window or door/window frame. The parts are attached to window/door by the supplied double sided sticky patch (this is a surprisingly strong bonding sticky patch, and I have no doubt it will remain in place for some time). The two pieces of the alarm shoould be attached in such a way that there is a narrow gap between the two parts.
To turn the alarm on one simply moves the side switch on the main alarm piece down as far as it will go. (Moving it half way down gives a single chime when the door/window is opened). To turn off the alarm simply close the window/door, or physically move the switch to the 'off' position.
The alarm itself is quite loud (110 - 120 decibels - I have seen both quoted in literature and on the box! Whatever it is, it's...

Grandpa Don: I like the fact you can turn them off or between chime and alarm. The chime is quite loud, but the alarm doesn’t seem to be as loud, especially when you are in a different room. Bought for dementia patient who has been seeking to exit.

Ted Harold: I've been experimenting with low-cost, DIY home security solutions recently. This product, so far, looks promising.
An initial test indicates that all four units work as advertised. I've read some reviews suggesting that they fail after a few weeks or months. I'll test mine in time and, if appropriate, provide a 5 (or 1) star overall rating.
The installation can be a little challenging. You'll want to experiment with the distance between the magnet and the alarm housing. Too close and the friction might interfere with the alarm trigger and similarly if the two parts are too far.
My application was for home security so I sought to create an installation housing so that special tools would be necessary to remove or destroy the alarm. Specifically, I used two sheet metal screws positioned so that they were underneath the alarm. I wrapped a length of malleable, solid wire around the top 1/8 of the screws (not tightened flush), cut a 1/2" square of foam rubber to cover the top of the alarm, then pulled the wire so that it was wrapped around the other metal screw. I used some electric tape to cover the alarm switch.
The first one was a little time consuming...
