eRapta ERT11 Rear-View Reversing Camera with License Plate Mount for Backup Assistance

Jason: Checked the reviews and obligated to return the favor as they were helpful to me. Hopefully this helps someone else looking at this backup camera.

The backup camera is pretty good.
Pros
Night vision is very good in the dark.
So far no leaks inside camera housing.
Did not fog up on foggy mornings.
Skinny wire for entry hole. Had already drilled a bigger hole for another camera which wasn't really waterproof to fit the yellow rca plug. This one is actually the size of the RCA wire without the big yellow head.
Comes with two brackets as pictured.
If you are replacing a bad camera you can still use your old rca plug and power supply. If you don't have to return them back for a refund. You can cut the power supply jack plug and connect this new camera power wires to those colors red/black and the RCA yellow plug can connect to the old one which was my scenario.

Con
If you have a thick license plate frame cover it is hard to fit camera over it for the sleek hidden bracket look. The camera is not adjustable unless you bend the camera bracket.
I still have to bend it a bit more. Also the hidden frame could've had the bolt holes with the long slots...

Samuel BlairSamuel Blair: Installed this on my 2011 Honda Fit for my new student driver. I had replaced the head unit with a Pioneer with the intent to eventually put in a backup cam. I did a lot of research and picked this unit with my fingers crossed.

Overall I'm pleased, having owned it for about 10 minutes. The picture quality is very good overall. Picture is sharp and bright during the day, but I haven't tried it at night. It does have a bit of a fish-eye effect so be prepared for that.

The installation instructions are mostly useless. I recommend going to Crutchfield.com and looking up how to install a backup camera. Those were the instructions we followed and they worked flawlessly.

Bear in mind that you will likely need some extra wire to connect your camera's power supply wire to the reverse lamp if you are doing that. It's not very long and as mine required running a wire through the hatch to the reverse light I needed a few feet more wire.

The parking lines are static and probably not worth using. I use the ones on the head unit as they are adjustable.

If this lasts 3-4 years I'll be happy.

Consumer Number 12: If the cables don't shake loose, this is a pretty nice camera. Unfortunately, I must either choose between having a working camera or using my trunk, but once I close the trunk the cheap RCA video connection stops working. Removing the liner of the trunk to access the connection every day isn't exactly convenient.

Edit: I was able to fix these finally with what seems to be a lasting repair that's not difficult. Basically, the RCA connectors on the camera end come loose easily. If you put a very thin layer of solder around the outside of the female connector (not on the male plug), it seems to keep the two halves of the plug firmly together when they are connected. With the fix in place, the camera has been rock solid for a few months now.

JohnnyJohnny: Please stay with me as we delve into the details. I specialize in tech reviews. In general, these license plate cameras can be a great buy, yet all brands in this price range face reliability challenges. This means great customer service and ease of replacement are essentials.

WHICH eRAPTA? ERT11 VS. ERT01:
First, be sure you have received the latest design with the all metal bracket. If yes, both are rated at IP69 to keep the water out! Both are considered high res at 1280 x 720 pixels. However, the fact they use standard RCA connectors makes this claim one not to rely on. In real world use, the eRapta’s typically yield a very impressive and sharp image, with quite decent color fidelity, too. Both are also related down to .1 LUX. A lower number is better—meaning they resolve low light well.

Of these two, I suggest spending just a little more for the ERT11 without lights. Cameras like these rely on your tail lights plus their LUX rating. Ask yourself, how many built in car camera have mini LED lights surrounding them? Answer: None. No mini LEDs means one less thing to go wrong and a few users have complained about the ERT01 lights getting stuck in the on...
