Allan young: So close. It has a well thought out screen that is easy to read and understand. The pin pointer feature has saved me from unnecessary digging and it's light as a feather without giving up strength.
The only complaint is the carrying bag. It's so cheaply made that the zipper broke after the 2nd zip, the material is flimsy and it's already coming apart at the seams. And maybe add a pocket or 2 to store things like extra batteries and tools.
But thank you for the awesome metal detector.

Jeff C.: Wanted a decent metal detector and this is it. Works as it should. Not super accurate on depth but if it's down there it will ping. If I was detecting gold or a certain type of metal I'd spend much more money. I got this to fool around with at playgrounds and on my property with the little one.

William R Malady: I took my time before submitting this review. The learning curve is not bad at all on using the detector. I watched a number of YouTube presentations first. The presentations on this model were very positive & I agree. I found the manual as being well written & easy to understand. I first used it on a beach of a dried up lake. Although I found no treasure to brag about, I did find an extremely small rusted piece of metal that I speculate came off of some sort of can. It was very hard to distinguish as anything. I was impressed that it even picked this up as a target. I also plan to use it to find our property line. This is much cheaper than hiring someone to do it. Another plus was when I sent a question to customer support, the response was prompt. The one downside & why I didn't give it a 5 star rating is that in my contact with customer support, there are no avenues for getting replacement parts. They did state they did warranty claims but that was about it. If is breaks down after the warranty period, you are out of luck. That's the way I took it.

IronSights30: Update 8/2023: Adding another star for great customer service!

DR.ÖTEK followed up with my on my follow-up review below and sent me their MT6 pinpointer for free. I'm impressed at how awesome they've been since my original difficulty with my MT-XR. That pinpointer is great and I have a 5-star review waiting for Amazon's approval for it right now.

Update 4/2023: Bringing the review up from 1 star to 3.

After several months following the posting of my original review (after it became the most popular negative review of the product, catching the manufacturer's attention), DR.ÖTEK reached out to me and offered to send me a replacement unit. I accepted and they shipped me the bare detector, not the kit that I had originally ordered, but that's ok since it didn't cost me anything but my time. Unfortunately by the time I received it and had a chance to put it together, the weather had turned and the ground had begun to freeze for the winter.

Susan: Arrived on time for my husband's birthday, he couldn't wait to get out and use it. The detector was easily setup and calibrated. The first time out using the detector we went to an old farmstead and my husband found a 1920 Canadian five cent coin within a hour (we also found lots of old metal farm peices) he's hooked on metal detecting now, along with our children. We're looking at getting another metal detector (same one) and possibly even a third one for the whole family to go out detecting.

Lynae K: Love everything about it so far!
It’s lightweight as all heck, easy to assemble, waterproof and has accurate readings. I did an initial unboxing metal test, using metals I had around and they were pinging under the right sections perfectly.
The only thing is there isn’t a carrying case so that needs to be purchased separately, and the screen being unlit isn’t ideal for nighttime, but all in all I am extremely happy!
It’s so easy to maneuver being as light as it is, and the coil being waterproof is a big plus.

Amazon Customer: As a first time hunter, we found the detector easy to use. The buttons were easy to follow and you knew rough what and how deep the item was you found. Our kids found several lost coins at the school where we tried it for the first time. We have plans to check out other areas near us and we will see what we can find. So far, a good easy to use product for both adult and kids.

JonathanJonathan: I purchased several Dr. Ötek products around New Year's Day 2020 with my Christmas stash of Amazon gift cards: an MT-XR detector, an M-6 pinpointer, a digger tool, and a waterproof bag. All of these Dr. Ötek products are of very nice, high quality and even better than I expected after reading many favorable reviews that noted good material and build quality. I would also add good design and obvious thought given to ease of assembly, good ergonomics, and ease of use. Very well done with this MT-XR detector and also the other Dr. Ötek products mentioned.

For several years, I have been on the sidelines researching metal detecting as a possible pastime and hobby for leisure and fun in my retirement. Now, I am diving in or digging in with my older brother, also retired and looking for fun activities that get us moving and into the great outdoors more often.

This MT-XR detector may not be the Rolls Royce of detectors, but it is truly very good and it will definitely give you many, many hours of cheap and adventurous fun, especially if like me, you want to do some peaceful detecting and digging for that occasional "treasure" find in solitude or with a friend or family...
