Amy W.: Wow, this story captured my imagination the way Greek mythology did in childhood, except with a red hot romantic theme. I loved Cat, the heroine for her surly grouchiness and contrary nature, especially once you realize that she became contrary to combat her power-crazed Queen of a mother.
This is no meek "princess diaries" kind of story, but an adventure for the bold hearted reader to thrill in reading. You're going to love it!!

Amanda Larsen: I enjoyed the story however, I feel like it sort of ended in a cliffhanger of sorts because if you truly want to know what happens with the hero and the heroine I assume you're going to need to read the next book. I found myself rereading a few times because I lost Focus listening to the story. I did think the story was good though and I liked all of the main characters. I am planning to listen to the next book because I would like to know what happens with the characters. The narrator did a great job with the story. Overall, an enjoyable book!

Sherburnite: The main heroine is nearly unrecognisable in this book vs the first installment making it a much less enjoyable read than the first. Such a pity the spark of the heroine has been lost completely.

ND: I was completely swept away by "A Promise of Fire," the first installment in The Kingmaker Chronicles. Amanda Bouchet weaves a mesmerizing tale of romance, magic, and adventure that kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish.

The protagonist, Cat, is a force to be reckoned with – a strong and independent character who adds a refreshing twist to the fantasy genre. The world-building is impeccable, seamlessly blending mythical elements with a gripping plot that unfolds at a perfect pace.

Bouchet's writing style is both enchanting and engaging, making it nearly impossible to put the book down. The chemistry between Cat and the mysterious Griffin is electrifying, adding a delightful layer of romance to the narrative.

What sets "A Promise of Fire" apart is its ability to balance action, magic, and romance seamlessly. The story is rich in detail, and the author's creativity shines through every page. By the end, I was left eager for more, eagerly anticipating the next chapter in this captivating series.

If you're a fan of romantic fantasy that keeps you hooked from the first page, "A Promise of Fire" is an absolute must-read. I can't recommend it...

may: I’ll forever love this book, it’s one of those books that holds a place in your head and you always end up thinking back on it, currently doing a reread and it’s just as good as the first time I read it. Definitely recommend it!

Sofia: I read this book way too quickly.

Let me start by saying that the main female character, Cat, is so funny. Her stream of consciousness through the entire book is to die for. That kept me reading, just to see how she viewed the things that were happening to her. I loved her bravado, cheekiness, stubbornness, and the fierceness with which she protects those she loves.

The male character, Beta Sinta/Griffin, was interesting. Yes, he is your über hunk, and yes, Cat, is literally drooling over him, but hey, this is also the guy who kidnapped her, and who, apparently, had the hots for her for some time.

The book is based on Greek mythology, and the world-building/magic system lives in this era. There is talk of gods such as Zeus and Poseidon, and Hades, who is having a fling with Selena, who is Cat's best friend. There are furies and griffins and all sorts of Greek-y monsters (cyclops, anyone).

I didn't expect to enjoy this book as much as I did, and the proof is in the fact that I couldn't stop reading and laughing, and when I reached the end (which left me with a big "eh?"), I had to get the next one.

The ending could use some work. I kept...

Kindle Customer: It is a well-written adventure with smart dialogues, and a decent plot. It was hard to put down until I finished it, and I immediately bought the next book of this series.

Célia D.: Rating : 3 ⭐.
Review : Well, well, well... It sounded promising at first and the beginning puts you directly into the world. The setting is interesting, mythology is always cool to read, and pretty easy to understand. The FMC, Cat, can be funny but also quite unnerving to be honest, she got abducted by Griffin, aka Beta Sinta, to help his kingdom ?? I don't even know? Like honestly I started loosing interest at 50% : there is something wrong with the romance here. Is it supposed to be an ennemies-to-lovers (right?) and it usually goes with slow-burn romance (right?) BUT it's not! The romance started so quickly for me IT DOESN'T work that way. I'm having mixed feelings here, this is so weird. Also the action/world setting is really cool, but throughout the book it's starting to become a mess ?? I got a bit lost...
Anyway I'm disappointed I didn't like that book as much as I wanted to.

🚫 I won't continue the serie 🚫

Gold Jam: I've read hundreds of romance books. Most are pretty average quality. This one is not. The series is one of the best in the genre. I don't usually write reviews, but seeing the undeserved criticisms of this excellent story spurred me to create one. This book, and the rest in the series, are not only well-written, but exceptional in the quality, depth, and complexity of the characters and relationships. The vividness and immediacy with which the characters are rendered really stand out in the genre. The world-building is beautifully done, and emerges organically as it is woven naturally into the plot instead of through lengthy treatises on history and description. Many of the criticisms in the reviews here are not only off-base, but also extremely misleading, and it is obvious that some of these people did not read very far into the story.

The plot begins with an abduction scenario, which is common in romance. But this part of the plot has nothing whatsoever to do with some "implicit idea" that women's autonomy should be taken away. The underlying circumstances of the abduction become clear and understandable as you read. No heroine in romance is stronger or more powerful...
