Teil.

Telperion: I enjoyed The Nevernight Chronicles, it was a familiar theme but with enough distinctiveness that it was memorable (an achievement when you read a lot of fantasy - they easily blur so you forget which series had which character and storyline, even the good ones).
I didn’t seek out this latest from Kristoff, though, I came across Empire of the Vampire on Goodreads when looking specifically for long books - value for money and all that. And I can honestly say I can’t remember the last time a book hooked me so quickly. Yes, it helps if you like the vampire genre. But it’s not laboured and the cliches (and I don’t use that word disparagingly, just to acknowledge that there are certain expectations which are met) form a natural part of the world-building, they don’t define it, meaning it’s accessible even if it’s not your usual bag.
Constantly intriguing, well written, complex and interesting characters and lots of action. Genuine plot twists. Not too formulaic, much like The Nevernight Chronicles. I couldn’t put it down. The only disappointing moment was when I finished it and discovered the next instalment hadn’t been released yet and won’t be for...

jake: It's a pretty good book. I did thuroughly enjoy it. From the beginning I was a little put off by the title/artwork. I thought it was going to be some gushy teen drama where the extremely bland and u interest girl has to choose between 2 perfect dudes who are pretty much the same.
But I was pleasantly suprised after reading the intro that it seemed to be action like and the what not.
I am happy I picked it up. It's full of plot twists and intrigue.
Honestly. I love the world more than anything else. It's got some amazing worldbuilding in it.
I'd recommend it to anyone a fan of the genre.

CPD: I'm not usually interested in vampire Stories, but I couldn't put down this book, since the first page I was hooked. Amazing world building and beautifully written. It reminded me to The Name of the Wind, but without the first 100 pages, straight to the telling the story part. Very recommended, I love it.

Lydia: Goodness; I thought I might never reach the end of this book. The beginnings of our De Lion’s story was ever interesting, but in truth it lagged in suspense and action enough, that I struggled to get through the first half.
I really enjoyed the storyline, and there were parts of this book that utterly gripped me. And then there were parts that were just lacking something I couldn’t put my finger on.
I still have this read a 4 star, pushing towards 4.5, because it really is some stellar story-telling. I am also a sucker for Kristoff’s brand of prose, and I will undoubtedly come back for book two at some point.

M. Bennett: I waited patiently for this one to come out. I watched as the publishing date changed a couple of times, pushing it out further, and still I waited. Finally, it released and soon after, I bought it. Then… I put it on my shelf. Oh, how I wanted to read it. The premise sounded so promising. Yet at 700+ pages, I couldn’t bring myself to read this one book when I could read 2-3 smaller ones in its place. Finally, more than a year later, I pulled it down, opened the cover, and fell in fully immersed. The journey was even better as there was beautifully done artwork scattered throughout.
The world in this book has been drowned in darkness. The days are dim with the sun barely showing, the nights are blacker than black. Vampires roam this world in search of humans for food and as slaves. They can come out in the day with its feeble light but are stronger in the nighttime. The vampires have also mated with the humans to create a hybrid. These hybrids have banded together to use the powers given to them by the bloodsuckers to destroy them. They call themselves silversaints and they are mankind’s last chance to take back this dark world.

Kelly Brown: I loved this book. The author weaved the tale perfectly, built a world that is original and fascinating. He kept laying crumbs of mystery that you gobble up and keep you reading, wondering what the hell is going to happen.
