Frankie Diane Mallis' Daughter of the Drowned Empire is one of the best Greek & Roman Myth & Legend Books available. This book is bound with high-quality materials and offers a large number of pages, making it easy to read and understand. It is a must-have for any fan of the genre.Courtney Langenbahn: I don’t remember how I came across this back in February but this is a re-read for me and I am still in love with this book. While Daughter isn’t my favorite of the series, thus far, it is was sparked my interest and had me binge each book that is out so far. You’ll be introduced to so much in Daughter: the magic system, the plot building, the ANGST, family dynamics, and my favorite… Rhyan. Highly recommend if you are looking for a good read!

Nicholas NokovicNicholas Nokovic: ✨Rhyan was here.
✨His eyes flashed with recognition, running up and down my body before settling on my face. One dark eyebrow lowered, his lips quirking into a smile. “Hello, lover.” 😍😍
This very much gives “Hello, Witchling” vibes
✨”For once, there was no feeling of disgust, no wanting to pull away, no needing to talk myself into his touch, like I did with Tristan.”
I hate Tristan. That’s it. That’s the thought.
📚”I thought you didn’t remember the last time you were here.”
There was a pause as his green eyes, lined with dark lashes, searched mine “I remember. I remember … everything.” Swoon 😍
The genuine concern that Rhyan has for Lyr is so heartwarming. The moment he believes she is hiding abuse he goes into protector mode and I love that. Also, the way he bears himself up for not doing something sooner. I just wish Lyr could tell him everything without the blood oath kicking I
📖”I was already losing consciousness, but the way he’d asked for consent every step of the way tonight as he’d healed me, it reminded me, brought me back to that first kiss—the first time...

Talarah Grace: An amazing introduction into this new fantastical world by Mallis.
I loved that the fmc is not a badass in strength from the get go and this book follows her journey of building who she is and breaking what she was. Lyr is intelligence and cunning and uses this to her advantage when fighting for her life.
You can tell who the real love interest is but I am enjoying the play by play of Lyr figuring out her stuff and feeling what she is going through.
I really enjoyed the background of this world that we are told a little of, and I am hoping we learn more of the real history in future books.
A very intriguing story which I am sure is only going to get more expansive.

Faith Overlee: I saw this rec a few times on tiktok, it popped up in my kindle deals email, and I proceeded to let it sit in my kindle unread for MONTHS. My oh my what a mistake that was!! The feelings this book gave me were like nothing I had ever experienced. I literally will not compare this series to any other because it deserves to be in its own category. From the very first meeting of the FMC and the MMC, I was hooked. There is so much tension from romance, family dynamics, and an insane amount of pressure on the FMC to be strong in a world set up literally against her. Lyr is so incredibly strong, despite the fact that she is the only person in her shoes without magic and I love that Frankie Diane Mallis has turned the overpowered FMC trope on its head. Watching Lyr navigate this absolutely gorgeous world and magic system has had me enraptured since chapter 2. I simply can't wait to continue this series!

Kindle Customer: This book is a great combination of adventure, the magic world, intrigues, and romance (slow-burning one:). But there is a catch: the world is complex and it takes a few chapters to start understanding it. It could be very confusing at the beginning, but once you get a picture, you can't put the book down. So worth it. Enjoy the reading, it is really good.

Kara: My rating system:
5 stars - Absolutely loved it! I would definitely read again anytime!
4 stars - Really liked it! Will most likely read again sometime.
3 stars - Liked it. Glad I read it but probably won't read again.
2 stars - Didn't like it. Glad I'm done with the book and I'll never read it again.
1 star - Very rare rating. Absolutely hated the book. Will never read again and I'll probably burn any copies I come across.
I did enjoy the book but I'm struggling with one major plot hole:
Why are mage and soldier the only career paths in this Empire??
She is going to be banished because she doesn't have magic so she can't "contribute to society"???
Why can't she be a librarian, cook, baker, landscaper, cleaning lady, stable hand attending to animals, farmer, glass blower, seamstress, shoe maker, metal forger, banker...I could come up with 200 more careers that are needed and useful in societies that wouldn't require magic.
Honestly I'm not even sure what all mages do in the Empire. I don't remember that being explained in the book. But since that option is definitely out, she becomes a soldier.
Setting the scene:
A Birth Bind is given to...

Booklovinglou: Lady Lyriana Batavia is a 19 year old women who also happens to be the third line to the Seat of Power in Bamaria.
All 19 year olds must participate in a ceremony where they choose if they want to be a mage, scholar or warrior. When her two sisters participated in the ceremony it was found that they had dark powers which are illegal in the Empire.
For Lyriana, the ceremony showed that she had no power which means banishment from the Empire.
Her stepped in and stopped her from being banished by providing an alternative. Lyriana was to train as a warrior and pass a test of strength with no magic at all and that could kill her
A figure from her past is thrust back into her life and made her apprentice who she has to train with and who brings up past feelings.
What Lyriana doesn't know is Rebel forces and invading armies are destabilising the home she knows.
I really enjoyed this book and how the characters were written. The world building and lore was a bit lackluster but the action/fight scenes were really good.
I started off feeling sorry for Lyriana and by the end of the book I love her. She is being brave and trying to keep her...
