UPDATE: 06/22/2021 = after using the standard contact sensor for several weeks, the sensor would only register when opened but started to fail registering when closed. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the sensor and it would work on the initial try but failed to register closed every time after. I tried two identical sensors but both would end up failing. I contacted YoLink customer service for a solution but they had none at first. Finally, a suggestion was made to try one of the “outdoor contact sensors” which had recently been added to the product line. I purchased the new outdoor sensor and installed the device ensuring the transmitter portion was fasted to the outside of the mailbox housing, ran the wired contact sensor to the inside of the lid/door and set up my routine using Alexa. After more than a half dozen tests, this seems to have solved the issue and for now is working every time without fail. Only time will tell if this will continue to perform in the future but fingers crossed that it will. BTW, the customer service representative also informed me that YoLink will be releasing a mailbox sensor designed specifically for this purpose soon,...

A Slightly Better Wife: I installed these on a couple of doors after our toddler mastered turning knobs and escaping his room at bedtime. I was afraid he would get outside. The alarm sends a notification to my phone, but best of all I was able to set up an Alexa routine (in the Alexa app click "more", and then "routines", tap the plus sign at the top enter a routine name, and set what should happen). Now when his door opens after a certain time at night our Alexa BLARES a siren, says all of our names to get our attention, and plays some jingle bells to wake us up. You can set it to do whatever you would like at whatever volume level you would like (it could greet guests with a welcome when the door opens if you'd like).
If our back door is opened we have a trumpet play on a medium volume. This alerts us that the door is open (like if the toddler is trying to get out) but isn't over the top annoying. I like that the sound comes from Alexa and not the alarm itself.
I can easily turn the routine off and on, or set it on a schedule. This way he can go in and out of his room all day, and the alarm only goes off if he is getting out of bed after we have gone to bed.
