Comments

K.: I have started each of Emily R. Kings series. The beginning is always so captivating and infuriating. She does an amazing job at creating a hateful villain. And I end up right there hating him and ready to fight him. She sets uo the beginnings of an amazing romance and an epic tale... and then by the second book i have lost all interest. I have never read past the second book of her series.

Brianne Langdon: I loved this book. The writing flowed so well, painted beautiful pictures and created love and sympathy for characters while simultaneously creating loathing and conflict towards others.
A gut wrenching tale of self sacrifice, self realization, and hope.

Laurie R: The characters formed more in this second book in the series. Loads of action and layers of story. Well written and an enjoyable choice for anyone who enjoys the trials, tribulations and triumphs of Greek mythology.

Stuart Brkn Johns: Crown of Cinders by Emily R. King is the second and final book in the Wings of Fury series, a fantasy saga inspired by Greek mythology. The story follows Althea, who discovers that she is Hera, the daughter of Cronus, the tyrannical king of the Titans. Along with her sisters and friends, she must fight against Cronus and his allies, who are unleashing havoc on the mortal world and trying to destroy the new generation of gods and goddesses.

Positives: The book is fast-paced and action-packed, with plenty of twists and turns. The author does a good job of weaving in elements from Greek mythology, while also creating her own original characters and plot. The book explores themes such as family, loyalty, courage, and destiny. The romance between Althea and Theo is sweet and satisfying, and the ending is epic and emotional.

Negatives: The book suffers from some inconsistencies and plot holes, such as how Cronus can be defeated so easily after being built up as an unstoppable force. Some of the characters are underdeveloped or stereotypical, such as Rhea, who is portrayed as a weak and passive mother figure. The book also relies on some convenient coincidences and deus ex...

Kindle Customer: Interesting view on gods from Greek mythology! Nice amount of fighting feminism :) I think I like this Hera more than the one from mythology :) Idea of mortal childhood was great.

Sue M.: So glad I read both books. Full of mythological wonder.

Like the story of Jason and the Argonauts, these books would make a great film. Recommended reads.

Amazon Customer: Hopped into this book right after reading Wings of Fury.
Another entertaining read but one that leaves me, no pun intended, furious.
This was a retelling of Greek mythology, casting Hera in a new light.
I had hoped there would be some redemption for Zeus and a more palatable tale of their union.
Instead, (spoilers) Hera ends up a prisoner of circumstances to Zeus while trying to heal from the heartbreak of losing Theo. History repeats itself in that a narcissist rules the heavens and rewrites history to best suit himself.
Essentially everything we read through in the series is thrown out as far as what mankind hears is concerned.
Granted, this then ties back into the "real mythology", but is nonetheless incredibly frustrating and is leaving me seething before bed.
Emily R King took the assignment of " Greek tragedy" too much to heart.
Overall an interesting retelling, but the frustration with Zeus and the direction of history and events after all is done (as well as the fate of Theo and him and Hera not being able to properly consummate their love for each other) has soured the reading experience for me.
Entertaining but read at your own peril.

Nikki A: An unusual viewpoint on mythology from female perspective. Have enjoyed both this and first book. Would read more of available.

LilyGreenEyes: Excellent conclusion to this duo of books. The connection to the myths of old was well played and not overdone, but with enough novelty to make it entirely devourable. Althea/Hera is a formidable character and an absolute joy to read, she flies free from the pages. Thoroughly enjoyed these books, and looking forward to more from King in the near future.
