Robert Savage: I bought this product because it was an exact replacement for the one the builder installed in the house. It lasted 15 years before the grinder plate rusted out. Installation was relatively easy because I was able to attach the new grinder to the existing sink drain hardware. For me this was a no brainer.

RustyRocks: We bought this to replace an identical model that was 10 years old. It works perfectly, and men, I suggest letting your wife do it. They have the skill and ability so don't let them fool you. Mine installed ours with 0 issues while I watched football. No need to thank me.

Gloria Gamron: We built our home in 2002 and, of course, the builder installed the cheapest garbage disposal they could. However, it is now 2015 and the disposal they installed just went out. Actually, because I put watermelon rind down it which I had done before. When I removed the disposal, I did discover that it had rusted out in the bottom where the propellers/cutting blades are located. I thought about replacing the disposal with a more expensive, nationally known brand, but, after realizing that the lower horsepower, unknown brand had lasted for 13 years, I decided to do an internet search for the same disposal which I could not find locally and I live in Houston, TX. So, instead of spending $200 at my local Home Depot, I spent $56 on Amazon. I just unhooked the original disposal and put in the new one. I didn't have to change hoses or install a new connection to attach it to my sink. It was the easiest installation I've ever done and, yes, I am the one who did it, not my husband. The new disposal is actually quieter than the previous exact same model. So, YES, I definitely recommend this garbage disposal, especially if you are replacing the exact same model as I...

Mr. Bill: I purchased this unit as a replacement for a Whirlaway 1/2 horsepower unit. Price was a key factor here. I will be moving soon and I didn't see a need to pay more for something that I wont be taking with me.
My old unit failed because of corrosion issues. Frankly that surprised me a bit since the upper chamber part is plastic but apparently the area near the blade is not. (Of course I understand that the blade itself isn't plastic) but that isn't what failed. It was the area just above the waste water outlet. I had the unit, maybe, seven years. That is about the amount of time i have had other units including more expensive ones.
I don't see myself as "hard" on any disposal. I am single. Its not used daily. I DO use it for nearly ALL garbage. I DON'T use it for bones, except for chicken bones which are soft, particularly when cooked. I don't use if for tough fibrous stuff like corn husks or banana peels. Just general garbage stuff that should grind up easily. I don't put garbage out for the trash because of racoons which invade nearly everything you throw out.
Anyway, the unit works fine for my needs. My old one worked just fine until the water started...
