Todt Family: I ordered this to replace my last one of the exact same product so it would be easier for me to change them out. I am hoping this lasts longer than the last one did though, as it only lasted 4 years.

SkyguySkyguy: Well, after 20 years of everyday use and maintenance our first Badger1 gave away.
This replacement was the same perfect fit as the original, the sound when in use is there but not overkill. The previous one was a direct connect (3) wires. It took about half of an hour to install and do a split so then next it needs to be changed it will not take so long. I kept the original mounting flange and splash baffle. Don't forget to throw a handful of ice at least once a month to keep those blades sharp, first run the insinkerator and then throw ice into it. Let's hope this this lasts just as long, it has been 3 months since purchased that I am writing this review. Don't forget to register yours upon installation, at this price point it is a great deal.

abt13: I bought this unit to replace the same exact one. The one i have installed came with the house and from the beginning was making a weird noise as if something was catching inside.
The replacement was a breeze, anyone can do it.

NOTE: if you have a dishwasher make sure to punch out the hole for the dishwasher drain... I being a guy lol didn't ready the instructions and didn't punch out the hole and the dishwasher stopped working because it couldn't drain the water... I guess the hole comes plugged since not everyone has a dishwasher? only my guess
Anyway, great product, low noise and it works well.
I would say though, that from now on I will not put leftovers (non-protein) down the garbage disposal. I don't care how good the product is, it never really breaks down the stuff you throw in fine enough to go through the drain. I think that's what happened to the previous one that came with the house, it got clogged and broke.

whitehorse: This is a very well thought out garbage grinder. It came with all the bits that are needed to install it. The directions are mostly clear.
Putting the sink drain in is the first challenge because you have to fit a circle clip around the the drain hold down flange while holding loose pieces and being half-jammed under the sink. With that hurdle cleared I thought it was downhill to the finish line. Nope! Holding the actual grinder and twisting the unit to clamp onto the aformentioned flange requires : arms at least 3 feet long, or strength of comic book character magnatude, or a very small person who can stand up under the sink and do it for you.
But I succeeded with none of the above advantages. Just don't start the project a couple hours before your wife's book group so they don't hear the words that you will utter!
