ron: Our heroes set out on the task to save the world. Good entertaining read.

Kindle Customer vince sr: This is a story of only 340+ pages that could have been cut by half. The repetition and the long-winded explanations of nothing going on were driving me mad.
I also was perplexed by the intelligence, or lack thereof, of the main hero. I get that there wasn't much of an education system in the times presented but the total lack of common sense was very irritating.
I got through book 1 and I am glad I had not purchased the rest of the series like I often do, as I have no interest in going through the agony of another.

Dandie C: Love all the characters and their quirks. Jacob always lays a great foundation in the 1st book that makes you fly through each series so far. From the same hometown as my mama, which is cool.

M. King: Feels like the main protagonist has the same internal monologue over and over.

What bits of action and plot progression slowed by interminable character discussions.

Decent characters…

Kindle Customer: Very interesting take on fantasy. The "heros" are definitely not what you'd expect. Very well written book with a lot of thought put into the characters. I enjoyed this one a lot!!

Bazzamiller: I quite like the characters in this book. The story is well constructed too. I bòought this, the first of the series, to see how it went but have now purchased the remaining books in the series.

Yorkie: I thought this sounded fun and overall I wasn’t disappointed. It takes some time to get going and is the first book forming the team. I look forward to the next book in the series

Justin Burnison: Jacob Peppers did a phenomenal job mixing in humor into fantasy. I love flawed characters, and those character flaws really shine throughout the story. Especially Fedder - The Fire Mage who thinks magic is for sissies, chef's kiss! There were so many moments that the book had me chuckling or in full blown laughter.

My only two complaints are personal. The first is that the book is 360ish pages on my phone in kindle, and those pages are broken into 11 chapters. This kept me from finding good break points where I felt comfortable putting the book down, even when I had too and they drug on for it. The second issue I had was that when we got a POV from one of the other characters that wasn't Dannen, it was at the end of the book. I get why for the vast majority, but I would have preferred either getting more POVs earlier, or just sticking with Dannen.

Those two complaints are solely mine. Others might not see the issues there, but there you have it. Overall, though, a *VERY* enjoyable book.

Matt: At first glance, and after reading the synopsis, I thought this was just going to be a silly, light hearted adventure, one to pass the time between reading exhausting epic novels. However, I was drawn into the story as it unfolded, and couldn't put it down. Sure, some of the dialogue is silly as the characters take their jabs at each other over and over again, while Dannen presses the bridge of his nose, but they all have depth. From lost love, unexpected sickness, violence prone brute to a furry pet with more than meets the eye. Memorable characters, sometimes raw, but real, language, and unexpected mishaps.
I wanted an escape and that's exactly what I got and more. Adventure, trolls, undead army, magic, swords, ale, tavern fights, trail rations, everything you think of in a typical medieval style fantasy adventure.
Now, you might hear too often about how many times the main character has been in the same kinds of trouble as he is currently experiencing but it grows on you, it becomes his mantra of sorts.
Give it a go, it's a fun tale, and told well.

Helen Grimmett: A fun read, at times laugh out loud as Dannen's thoughts are as ribald as they are true. A well written book, with plenty of descriptive world building and mystical peoples that live within it. A couple of squeamish moments that made me go eugh, but as I said trouble and action follow wherever Dannen goes.

This is the first book in an epic fantasy series, so don't expect the story to be all wrapped up neatly because it won't be! And don't be fooled by there only being twelve chapters, they are loooong chapters! Overall an enjoyable read, and I will be looking out for next installment when it arrives.
