Sophie Lark’s books are propulsive. One she gets all the pieces set up, everything moves very quickly. She’s one of my favorite authors on Kindle Unlimited, and this series alone might be worth the price for most readers. The ending to this story was a little flat, but I hope we get more glimpses of their story in future books.

Ffion: Stolen Heir is the second interconnected standalone in the Brutal Birthright series by Sophie Lark. In this book, Nessa Griffin, Callum (who was the hero in Brutal Prince) Griffin’s baby sister. We met her in the first book as the meek and slightly naïve member of the family. After the run in with the Polish mafia in the first book, tensions are high after the murder of Mikolaj’s ‘father’. After a chance meeting in a nightclub, an entranced Miko takes an interest in Nessa and decides to kidnap her in retaliation for his fathers murder. This is definitely a Beauty and the Beast retelling. The quiet, naïve woman with the brutish beast. Obviously, for some, the whole kidnapping and captivity element of the story isn’t appealing. I felt the back and forth between the two was good. Nessa learning Polish to listen in on conversations was fun to read as well. Overall, I enjoyed reading this. Seeing Nessa grow and become more independent was good but it would have been nice to see more of this. Miko was a great hero. The tragic back story, the weight of being Boss on his shoulders with the introduction of this woman he’s falling for was fun to read. I look forward to reading...

Liz Mackie: An atmospheric, slow burn mafia romance with definite Beauty and the Beast vibes in Stolen Heir as head of the Polish Braterstvo, Mikolaj kidnaps Nessa Griffin as the first stage of his revenge against her family and the Gallos for the murder of his father in Brutal Prince, the previous book in the series.

With great characters and a strong storyline this was a great addition to the Brutal Birthright series. I enjoyed that there was no insta-love between the hero and heroine or abductor and hostage if you prefer despite the obvious chemistry Their relationship built up slowly with very little physical interaction until probably half way through the book with Nessa always aware of just how dangerous her captor was. It would’ve been so easy to have Mikolaj compare Nessa to his dead sister and compare the two, invoking doubts but he stayed resolutely firm on his path as he schemed to bring about the downfall of her family but ultimately, as with all good fairytales Beauty tamed the beast.

TRIGGER WARNING:
The start of the book has a mention of suicide so proceed with caution if this bothers you.
I found the start of the book to be really devastating but it's an important part to understand mikolaj's darkness.

It took me quite some time to warm up to mikolaj's character. His anger was understandable but I found him to be just so mean to nena, with the way he spoke to her and the way he thought so little of her.
The build of their relationship was very Stockholm Syndrome and I wondered how Mikolaj would be able to redeem himself in order to deserve nena's love. But the author did a great job of getting him to make up for his wrong doings towards nena. I fell in love with mikolaj by the end of the book!
He really earned her love.

The spicy scenes were nowhere near as spicy as the first book. It took quite some time for the characters to fall for each other.
This book is a beauty and the beast retelling and I absolutely loved it. The description of the house was well written and I felt like I was there.
A very dark version of the classic tale and I very much enjoyed it!

Right well, I jumped straight into this book after reading Callum and Aida’s story in Brutal Prince. I was hoping that I’d get more of their story intertwined as I grew to love the bickering partnership they’d forged. Whilst they are mentioned heavily throughout, this book focuses on Callum’s youngest sister, Nessa.

Nessa is the typical spoiled, mollycoddled, want-for-nothing daughter of Irish Mafia kingpin Fergus Griffin. She’s the baby of the family and treated as such by her parents, her older brother and everyone around her. Her sister Riona treats her with more like contempt than anything remotely loving because in their family business, Nessa is considered to be nothing but the frosting on a cake... she’s the bit that makes it pretty... overly sweet and nothing more than what you see.

She thinks her life is set out for her and that her place in her family will always be a bargaining chip for some prized match. She knows her place, she knows what’s expected of her - to uphold the family business...
