Cheryl: I purchased this to replace a Sony CD/DVD Player I have had since 2001. I was skeptical about purchasing and concerned about whether or not it would work as stated. I received it much quicker than expected and immediately set it up. I put in 5 CD's and tried all the different functions then played all 5 CD's. Everything worked perfectly. Having an HDMI connection is also nice. The seller stated that a remote was not included but a week before the player came, I received a remote in the mail. The only cosmetic issues are a few scratches on top of the unit. I could have paid less but chose this seller because of the 1 year money back guarantee. I am very happy with my purchase.

KSB: Love it. Excellent condition. Might have been a little pricey but we are so happy to have been able to replace our old 5 disc changer DVD which is not available in stores anymore.

Consumer: I'm beginning to acquire a number of DVDs and just when they no longer make a multi disk player. Finding this new one on line was a thrill. Quite expensive, (and probably paid a premium for a product that was much less expensive back in the day; but I don't know that for sure and besides, I find it does exactly what I wanted it to, and so it is worth it). I can load part of a multi-disk series in one genre (for example the Sherlock Holmes stories from PBS) and do the same for another, such as comedy (e.g. Jeeves and Wooster) and load a third in a science series (such as The Atom) etc. and when I want to watch something and not quite sure what seems satisfying, I have 5 choices and can bounce between them if I want. Marvelous. I read a couple of reviews that cautioned about reliability and I hope I don't have any such issues in the future as I am quite thrilled with it. Another review said that you can't identify the disks other than by number, but that is a slight inconvenience and you can always write down which disks you put In which tray. The paly back quality is first class. I'm sure Blu Ray would be better, but not significantly enough to not have this...

Mr Axolotl: UPDATE: THIS PRODUCT HAS FAILED SEE BELOW FIRST. I often buy SONY when I'm looking for an electronics component since I usually find them to be of high quality and reliability. I had a SONY upscaling DVD player for single disc play and it was okay but I desired one with multi-disc capability, hence this purchase. This model has all the features I need plus it was on sale at Amazon. I've had it for a week and have used it extensively, if I have a problem with reliability later I'll edit this review and report it. I like the fact I can leave in discs that I haven't completed and put in new ones to view. It does make a bit of a clattering noise while changing discs. Hook up was easy, sound and video options are plentiful. I have a SONY Dolby/DTS sound system and this changer works with that just fine. The video quality is outstanding, along with my 32" SONY wide screen TV, this DVD model is a fine addition to my system.

Now: 2 months later and I am having trouble loading discs. It is becoming unreliable. I will try to get it fixed but I don't like huge shipping fees to return such items. I'll write more later.

DIYer: First and foremost, I'm a Sonyaholic - I've never had a problem with any Sony product (I have three Sony TVs, two VCRs (yes, still!) and 3 DVD players) and as I expected, I've not had a problem with this unit. I bought this unit because I was watching DVDs in a series (e.g., Monarch of the Glen with 15 DVDs) and was weary of settling in to view only to have to change the DVD to continue the series (yeah, I sound lazy, I know!).

Yes, the "loading" display seems to take a bit of time before the DVD actually loads, but I've gotten used to it now. Quality is standard Sony - no bits 'n pieces to break, display is clear and hook-up was straightforward.

Pros: the price, it can't be beat; 5 discs in a single tray; quiet; easy to hook-up; solid-feeling unit; works right out of the box (manual-reading not required).

Cons (aka the reason for 4 stars vs. 5 stars): 1. the numbers on the DVD tray are raised in the same black as the tray - a white or yellow or any visible color should be a given, otherwise I'm routinely turning on a light (which I don't happen to have right next to the DVD player) to see which slot the DVDs are in (I've since painted them...
