Silvertill: The second book in this series had highs and lows. Overall a good tale, with some lulls. Nicholas and Dion are brothers who have both have very strong parts to play. Nicholas is overly strong a long by night with a ruthless nature. Dion finds he is a shape shifter man and dragon, he scares his brother who sends him away.

Al_ D: Ooft I know it's a general rule that the second book in the trilogy has to basically destroy hope but ouch. Great world, don't read book 2 when you're in a slump though.

sara: I felt at times the information that was crucial to the books flow was a little rushed but does inspire the mind. So many different races of people who are all killing for supremacy and even shapeshifters looking for there place in this new world. But when you think you knew all the game player's you get stunned by Icelandic mages. Cannot wait for the next instalment.

Kindle Customer: This is the second serie and installament i read by Maxvell, the first was the Evermen and he is a very talented writer and an exellent world builder in the fantasy genre, he also manages to write the caracters so well and in a way that you feel like you know them and cheers for the heroes of the story. In the center of these books are Dion, a halfbreed with the blood of ancient shapeshifters in him and of royal heritage and Chloe, a daughter of a noble man and Dion's love interest. We follow them as they fight for their homelands in a world of both magic and power hungry kings. This second book pics up where the first left and in the aftermath of a war that nearly did cost our heroes their homeland and freedom, new kings and alliances rice. I wont go further in to the storyline or bring on spoilers but i guess if your looking at reviews of this second book in the installament you might have read the first and know your in for a treat, it keeps up the pace and high quality writing and Maxvell"s books are among the finest in the genre

The Wicenator: I can't really find too much to complain about with the second installment. There's decent story fleshing, twists, turns, and good plot advancement. My couple complaints are minor, the first of which being the constant switch of perspective and characters. I've read numerous titles that follow a host of main characters along the overarching story. The issue I have is that it seems haphazard and sometimes you get the perspective of a character you only see the one time, perspectively speaking. You'll see these characters in other perspectives but only the one or two times from their own. It's also at a breakneck pace, with the switch of characters being enough to cause metaphorical whiplash. Some chapters are incredibly small while others are twice or thrice the length. My second complaint I'll explain by way of issuing a challenge. Please take a shot of your preferred spirit every time the words "wedge shaped head" are said over the course of your reading and let me know if you're alright afterwards. Minor complaints but overall a great story so far with amazing narration for the audio version. Looking forward to the next couple books.

Constant Reader: This is the second book in the Shifting Tides young adult fantasy series. The series is set in an imaginary world with imaginary creatures. James Maxwell writes a sweeping tale of the high seas, magic, heroes, villains, and war. Chloe continues in this volume as a strong young female protagonist. She is intelligent and resilient. She may be a princess, but she is not waiting to be rescued. Dion’s story picks up where it left off in the previous book. He has been exiled from his country by his older brother (the new king). Dion is trying to understand who he is and where he should go. It would be best if you have read the first volume. This story adds countries, characters, magic, heroes, and villains. It was almost a relief to have some characters killed off just to reduce the cast of characters. Much of the plot is resolved in this book, but the stage is clearly being set for the next book. The entire book is not a cliffhanger, but there are cliffhangers left to tease the reader into the next book. In fact, several segments of the book are devoted to introducing a new group of characters who will apparently drive the conflict in the next book. It is a good story, and it is told...

Mrs H: This is a very well written and entertaining book; it is as fast paced as the first part, and the pace is maintained throughout. It continues the stories of some of the characters from the first book, some of which we lose, and we are introduced to new ones, all without the reader losing the individual plot lines or the overall focus of the story. The characters are well developed and the description of the action makes it an exciting read.

This is a part 2, with a part 3 clearly to follow. It isn't quite a cliffhanger but it leaves the various threads of the storyline open for the next part, which I look forward to reading. The series is a worthy successor to the Evermen saga, which I loved.
