Region Free DVD/CD Player with 1080p Up-Conversion and Multi-Region Playback Capabilities

My thoughts on this product: Easy to set up, the quality is great, and 8s small enough to fit in a smaller space. I am so glad I purchased this. The remote control even included batteries and the connecting cable.

theresa: I have been using for a few weeks now and I find it ti be operating well. It was packaged nicely. It was easy for me a 75 year old to hook up and it operates as described. I am happy with purchase. But one con is that the remote is difficult to maneuver it must be an order version. No way of feeling for buttons you need to put light on if dark to operate it. My son tells me that thew newer ones have different sizes and shapes and position them for easy touch. He also said that since it is not even blue ray it was too expensive. But since it works without incident I shall keep it

I bought this DVD player to replace an old Philips model that I bought probably 15 years ago or more, when I needed to be able to watch DVDs from the UK/Region 2 that were in PAL format. That DVD player's disc tray will no longer open, so I needed a new one.

This model from Panasonic was EXACTLY what was needed! Please note that the pre-printed info on the back of the device is marked Region 2, BUT there is a label on the outside of the box that states Region-Free, AND IT IS! It was region unlocked right out of the box! On my old Philips model, I had to find the Region Unlock Code and input it myself, but that was unnecessary here. I put in a Region 1 DVD and it played flawlessly! I also tested with a Region 2 DVD in PAL format to make sure the PAL to NTSC conversion works, and it again played flawlessly! For $60, I'm very satisfied. I believe I paid more like $80-100 for the one it's replaced.

Scap: After reading mixed reviews, I wasn't sure if this would work for me as I have multiple DVDs from around the world. But I was delighted to find out it plays every type of DVD I have with absolutely no issues whatsoever. No special programming needed either...it worked right out of the box! Hook up was a snap as well as I had purchased an HDMI cable for it (which I would recommend). The picture was noticeably sharper than the DVD player this replaced (which I replaced because it was having issues playing some of my home-made DVD-Rs, but this Panasonic played them all with absolutely no problems!!). My only criticism of this player is it has no display, so you have to rely on your monitor to find out where you are on the disc, and if you have the unit in an entertainment center (like I do), it's difficult finding the eject and power buttons because they are on top of the unit, and everything is black (you have to therefore "feel around" for the buttons). After a while, you just get used to where they are located. But given the price and performance of this player, it's hard to not give it 5 stars despite this design flaw.

Cat's Laughing: Worked perfectly out-of-the-box. Needed no setting adjustments and plays all my DVDs regardless of region. I subtracted one star simply because what is the point of an up-conversion HD DVD player that intentionally does not include an HDMI cord? If you are buying this item for the up-conversion you are, presumably, connecting it to an HD TV, and to get the full quality that requires an HDMI connection and cable. I doubt that many customers are buying an up-converter for older tv's that don't have HDMI ports, so it's rather odd that an RCA cable is included. Even a bare bones 3 foot HDMI cable would be a sensible add-in for this product. There are cheaper DVD players out there that are not multi-region that are the more likely purchase targets for a non-HDMI customer base.

Overall, very good buy for the price and does what it says it will do. The picture is very crisp on our older 52" HD 1080p plasma Hitachi TV. Don't forget to provide your own HDMI cable, at least for now.

Steelheadr: After unboxing this player and hooking it up to our Sharp Aquos TV, the playback results were disastrous - HDMI wouldn't work at all, and using the included RCA cables produced a very poor picture with flashes of colored stripes across the screen. No audio AT ALL! Took it out to the Samsung smart TV and it works perfectly with the HDMI connection. Picture and sound are excellent. Those who have problems with this unit may find the problem is with an outdated or functionally challenged TV. Plays Region 2 DVDs fine and is just what we needed.
