Rock Diamond: I have used these flush-valves in all three of my toilets for 24 years. Over all that time, only the fill-valves have leaked, never these flush-valves. The fill-valves were NOT Mansfield units. I have replaced these flush-valves only once simply due to renovations.

The BEST thing about this type of flush-valve is that the flushing action can be stopped, mid-flush, thus preventing potential overflows. If the bowl is about to overflow, which typically might happen if someone attempts a second flush, you only have to turn the handle the opposite direction to stop the flush. With the chain-pulled flapper valve, you are doomed to overflow - you cannot stop the flush unless you very quickly remove the tank-lid and jam your hand down inside to close the flapper. Yea, YOU know what I'm talking about.

This flush-valve is designed to be used with a handle that has a longer rod, which sticks through the D-opening on the side of the flush-valve. There is no chain... which is why turning the handle the opposite direction will close the valve and stop the flush.

Wilber: I use these to repair older toilets that need the entire tank rebuilt due to age, neglect or abuse (from putting bleach tablets in the tank). I love the action of the flush valve and I love how easy it is to replace the gasket under the valve. I don't have to worry about whether the gasket is the right one for the toilet or not because they only make one, unlike flapper type valves where there are hundreds of choices out there.

When connecting the tank lever to this flush valve I use a series of black zip ties (black ones work best because they aren't brittle and won't break under heavy use). I put one zip loose around the flush valve loop, then I loop that one to the tank lever arm and connect them. Then I double up both of them for added strength and tighten up the ones going around the loop on the flush valve leaving the other two loose. This will ensure that the flush valve will be able to move up and down easily without restriction. NOTE: If you have a cheaper plastic handle then you need to replace it with a good quality metal handle.
Some tanks have the lever so it's closer to the flush valve and you won't need to use zip ties at all. In this case just make sure...
