David Suddaby: No need to hire a plumber for $550 to replace this part. Four screws. If you can't manage four screws, you have larger issues. Works great.

Amazon Customer: Replaced leaking flush valve, which was relatively easy. New valve assembly was leaking worse than the original. Ordered a second replacement from Amazon. When I took out the flush valve to replace it a second time I could see the problem. The brass "flange" that the valve assembly bolts to had the slightest bit of mineral buildup on it. Used scotchbrite to clean this brass plate, being careful to go around the ring, not across the plate where it could have scratched it and caused the seal to leak. The rubber gasket is fairly slim so there is little room for imperfections in the mating surfaces. This took care of it. Sent the second valve back unused, wasn't used. Be sure that this plate is clean and smooth. In areas where the water is hard you may need to replace this bottom part due to erosion.

Melliott: Replaced a much different looking American standard 4" flush valve on a one piece toilet. The old flush valve was made from hard white plastic..It had multiple moving parts and a float on the side of it. I had to pull the old valve extremely hard to break the hardened gasket. It came off in many pieces. I used a wire brush dremmel bit to clean the gasket from the brass plate that the flush valve mounts to. The gasket was still very difficult to remove. I used some silicone gasket along with the foam sealing ring that comes with the new valve to ensure a good seal to the old brass ring. New valve flushes great and I don't have any leaks. I noticed that this new valve requires considerably more force on the flush handle to operate.

HankDenver: For those unfamiliar with toilet repair, it can be a harrowing experience to repair leaking tank. My toilet had an old system that was not only leaking but obsolete. So witty a little help from YouTube I replaced the flush assembly with this unit. So far --so good!

Amazon Customer: I was pleased to find the reviews on Amazon that sait this would be a good replacement and upgrade for my 17 year old flush valve. The installation instructions were good except for 2 points. They said to use 4 new screws although they were not included and they did not warn that the fill valve may need to be rotated to clear the pipe on the side of this new style flush valve. Fortunately my old screws were in excellent condition and the float on the fill valve barely cleared. So far after a few weeks everything is working great.

Donny Waters: As to instruction quality there were no instructions but none are really needed as you just remove the four screws in the corners pull up the old valve and gasket if it stuck and reverse the procedure to replace.
If you think this valve assembly is leaking, turn off the water to the toilet and give it enough time to leak out to what ever level it eventually settles at. I say this because on mine even after I replaced the valve it kept leaking by. After having the water off for a day I found the water level just barely below the valve assembly. I tried numerous fixes thinking it was the bottom gasket but nothing work. Eventually I took an entire 2.8 oz tube of waterproof silicone and smeared it all around the base of the valve being careful to not entomb the screw heads thinking one day I may need to remove them again. Guess what, it still leaked to the same level. Another 2.8 oz of Silicone and this time I gobbed it on the four corners and ever being able to remove it be damned. Success, no more running toilet and with a little luck I'll be moved or dead before it starts running again.
