Buizel Vela: I had purchased a replacement flush valve from Home Depot two years ago when it began the dreaded "phantom flush". It went pretty smooth, but I had noticed it would empty the entire tank upon flushing which was annoying, but easy to stop if I lifted the handle mid-way. Fast forward to now, I decided to finally take an extra step out of using the porcelain throne. I have a Mansfield #160 toilet (I believe) and this flush valve did the trick. Took about 30 minutes to swap everything out and we're golden. Flushes 1.6gpf instead of the 3-something gallons before. If I ever need a replacement in the future, I know what to get now.

jjdynomite: I buy these in bulk because the basic design seems to be designed to fail. I don't know why this design ever became popular - the top pc breaks off from the lever slamming up into it over time and must be replaced. However, these replacements are great. Perhaps I could change to a different style like the old flap which took 2 minutes to replace but I am not that ambitious.

Funny, I never saw my father or grandfather ever replace the plunger/valve system. Ever. Since owning my own house I replaced flap type every 2 years with a cheap replacement. The Mansfield style seems to last 5 years but you have to remove the tank and all that. I've replaced on different 4 toilets within the past 2 years.

If you need this, this is a good replacement.

Sarah A.Sarah A.: This is EXACTLY the flush valve that those of us with Mansfield 160 toilets require. Almost every local store will only stock the 210 “Universal” flush valve and will tell you that “it will work”, but what they don’t tell you is the 210 valve more than doubles your water consumption per flush and is the reason for the common “double flushes” you see with the 210 valve on a model 160 toilet.

This valve uses 1.6 gallons per flush, while the white 210 valve uses 3.5 gallons per flush.

These Mansfield toilets really need this 211 valve and a Korky 528Z Quiet Refill Valve when you go to do your repairs. The Korky valve gets rid of the old ball float, has 50% reduced tank refill noise, and the “Z” version saves water by stopping the tank refilling if there’s a leak - rather than just wasting tons of water and having the toilet constantly running.

I considered buying new, more efficient and quieter toilets but the 211 flush valve and Korky fill valve give me many of the benefits of a newer toilet for about $30.
