Kindle Customer: The start is really interesting with a very different "voice" so I was very keen for the first half of the novel and then it fell a bit flat for me. I've been trying to pinpoint what bothered me and I think it's because everyone is redeemed off stage and the potential conflict does not seem worth exploring, so it gets glossed over quickly.

Coming off the best novel I've read this year (which is unfair to this one), I was looking for something with emotional depth and this was recommended. It just did not measure up.

I don't want this to be a bad review because it was really not bad. It's sweet with lovely "found family" moments. I liked where it went with the plot in the end and it made me want the novel from his POV. I thought the characters were also unique and a bit different.

I recommend it if you have some money to spare.

George: While I enjoyed this book, I had difficulty following the different fonts referenced in the book. A minor complaint.

Laurie Oh: Love Lettering is a pure and unadulterated delight of a book. It started a smidge slow for me, but even when I thought about not finishing it, something about this book beckoned me back.

While one would not find much romance in construction of letters or the description of fonts, in Kate Clayborn’s hands, there is emotion. Meg Mackworth is a lettering savant, seeing the letters emanating from those she connects with. It makes this story all the more compelling.

But at it’s heart, it is the slow burn romance between Meg and Reid that will win your heart every single time. Reid is absolutely courtly and polite in “Masterpiece Theatre” sort of way. At first glance, he is absolutely a broody regency romance hero. To get him, you do absolutely have to look for the signs in his facial expressions and body language. All of which are detailed so perfectly that falling in love is the only option.

This book is going to stick with me for a bit. I love that it gave me heart eyes at every turn. Sigh.

Janet: 4.5 ⭐️ After a bit of a slow start; it picks up quickly. Both of the main characters have their quirks. The explanation about them is revealed slowly which I enjoyed; it was not told in the first chapters. It had a twist that was not what I expected! Both, Meg and Reid find growth from one another as well as supporting characters. This was a thoroughly enjoyable summer read.

Kimberly: Setting: New York City (mostly Brooklyn, some Manhattan) Contemporary
Genre: Romance
Meg Mackworth is a graphic designer who makes custom journals, planners, and desk calendars. Before starting this business she did design work for weddings. A little over a year ago,k she had created all the ephemera for the wedding of Avery Coster and Reid Sutherland. She had met several times with Avery, but she insisted that Reid be at the final meeting. His input was like he wasn’t there anyway. But she had seen him, had seen him and Avery together. And she had made a m-i-s-t-a-k-e in the wedding program. And now Reid is back in the store where she is now only filling while the owner is on vacation. He couldn’t possibly know about that m-i-s-t-a-k-e, right? But he does, and it is a rather uncomfortable confrontation, especially for Meg whose default setting is chipper. The next day she finds his business card on the floor and impulsively sends him an email asking if he would meet with her. She asks if he’d like to take some inspiration walks with her. And so he can see what there is to love about New York. In the beginning, what rises between them can’t even be called friendship...

Bec Webb: 3.5 to 4⭐

This was an enjoyable read. It was a nice steady story throughout, with no particular major storyline or event as such, though there is a small twist towards the end.

The characters were likeable, and I felt a little connection to the female protagonist, Meg. The male protagonist Reid was likeable enough, though his character, by intention, was a little off, and I felt that.

The story itself, the writing style, the description etc was really nice.

It's not a story I loved, hence why not 5⭐s.

I also knocked half a ⭐ off because the description of how Meg (who's a hand letterer) sees and describes letters and fonts is way too much.
Whilst I understood a good enough amount about what she was describing (as someone who uses fonts in my design work), I can imagine that it may put off people who have no knowledge or interest in how artistic lettering works. It's too technical and a bit too often throughout the book.
If you can get passed that then overall the story is a really nice one.

Dini: Oh my heart... I can't even with this book and how it's made me feel. I knew I was going to enjoy this but I didn't think that I'd fall so hard and fast (after a slightly rocky start) for Meg and Reid, and their love story. Swoonsh, indeed! I literally just finished reading this book two minutes ago and my heart is still soaring and I don't know if I'll be able to write a coherent review but I'm going to try anyway!

You know when you read the first lines of a story and something just clicks and you think "YES, this book is definitely going to be for me"? I felt that when I read the first lines of Love Lettering. I will admit to experiencing a bit of a rocky start after those first few lines though. There was something about Clayborn's writing that threw me off and I wasn't sure whether it'd be f0r me. But although it took me a bit to get used to, I ended up liking it. What I know for sure is that Clayborn writes with such heart. I felt every awkward encounter and whimsical moment, and every punch to my gut and feels. Her words hit surprisingly deep and it's a big reason for why I fell so completely in love with this book and her characters. The story did take a turn to the...

Corinna: A lovely and engrossing book. Those scenes between Meg and Reid some felt were awkward, were awkward and realistic, I really could feel and suffer with Meg.
It is a book you need a bit of patience for but this patience is rewarded.

avid reader Helen: When I started this book I was a little bit confused. There was a lot of artistry description and reference to lettering that seemed a bit too much technical for a first chapter. The first meeting was again not very straightforward with a lot of hinting and subtle flowery avoidance of a definite storyline. Thankfully, this eased up as the book progressed. The artistry and subtitly was still there but not all packed in together. There was balance between whimsy and seriousness. The plot twist was good (no spoilers). Sometimes I really wanted to give Meg a good shake but her character grew and developed well through the story. Reid's character had less development and more of a subtle opening up to show he was more than the original description.
Overall, I'm glad I persevered with the book and very much felt this story left me with a content and happy smile.
