Claire B.: First of all .. Panasonic is the name that goes far back comes to electronics. They have great quality control and they keep up to certain standards to uphold the reputation. There are million no-name brands out there that copy and imitate the leading brands like Panasonic or Sony but those machines really tell another story. It is like with a low end car trying to imitate the high end car, on the outside they may look quite deciving but just like with cars, with disk players of all kinds what matter is the inside not the outside.

I have tried few players at this price range and this is BY FAR THE BEST!

The set up is easy, just follow the simple instructions.
The image quality is great.
The remote functions are very clear.
It picks up the movie where you left it off before you turn the unit off and when you come back
to watch it again, you don't need to go to find the place you stopped watching at.

Really honestly, perfect simple unit. If you are someone who does not need to pay for bazzylion
extra features that you never use and if you like good quality video and simple small machine
then I definitely recommend this item. ...

J. Hand: Over the years, as part of my music collection, I acquired a number of CD and DVD sets where I could enjoy the CDs but the DVDs were PAL so I was unable to watch them. I tried a number of pay and free 'cracks' on several domestic DVD players that were supposed to make them region-free. None ever worked and a few trashed the players. The price of many of the region-free players were always cost prohibitive. In my way of thinking, if I have $500 to spend on digital entertainment I'd rather buy $500 worth of CDs than a $500 player to be able to watch several dozen DVDs. (I'm the same way with tools and tool boxes- If I have $1000 to buy gear for my shop with, I'd rather spend $700 of it on tools and maybe $300 on a minimalist tool box to hold them than spend the whole $1000 on a more fancy tool box and not buy more tools!)

The day I bought this player I had decided to see if prices had changed any since I last looked. They had indeed come down for many units. I was actually quite surprised at both how affordable many region-free players had become and even more amazed at how widely prices varied for the same unit from retailer to retailer. I guess I fall into the category of those reviewers that like their player because mine works just fine too!

Perhaps one reviewer needs to ask for the software hack from his vendor to re-correct his player if it's not performing properly. I bought mine from Bombay via Amazon fulfillment! Out of the box; A-OK!

Down to my review now. Ok. 1st and foremost it plays my region 2 DVD's from France & the UK! It also plays my Korean imports and many are Pal 2! That being said I can stop now! Ha ha. But just a few more words.....

This is no Sony! Sony menu & interface have many more choices. This really is quite minimal in that respect.
So usually it will not playback from last stop. Sometimes but not always. Ok I can live with that as most DVDs have scene selections!
The remote IS SMALL. But I find I can get use to that too!
Those are the two biggest distracters and forgettable as far as I'm concerned.

Now this unit does have HDMI, but I use component cables because HDMI limits the control I have in picture sizing. In other words HDMI defaults to a FULL setting so I cant see "a film"...
