I feel that the Flex version has more than enough firmness to it...barely any give. And the amount of flex that it does have is appreciated for those tight hip areas. Love the center feature that allows me to roll my back and prevents any pressure on my spine. The center ridge also is noce for those tight hip areas. Sometimes, however, I can’t roll my thighs/IT Bands comfortably so I will use my normal roller. Overall though, a very good foam roller!

Lara Dgirl: Better than most foam rollers out there, but don't use it as much as my OPTP Soft foam roller, or my YTU balls. I like the shaping a lot (especially the center channel for the spine, and using the ends for my glutes), but I wouldn't mind if it was More "flexible"/soft. I would not call it soft by any stretch - it just has a mild give to it. Unless it has heavy use in a gym or clinic, I imagine the density would hold up for much longer than your standard foam roller - this appears to be an entirely different material. I tried a friend's "Firm" intelli roll first and chose this because I do prefer softer rollers. If you think you need a relatively Firm roller, I'd say the Flex is more than enough. If you are at all (extra) sensitive (e.g. injury, or maybe Fibromyalgia, etc sensitivity to touch/pressure), look into the OPTP Soft, or Melt rollers.
Re soft vs firm: I'm actually a Myofascial Release Therapist. I see all the time that people believe "harder" or "more pressure" is more effective. It's actually Not true. Muscles, fascia, and the nervous system respond best to the "appropriate" amount of pressure (as well as drag/lateral shear from a grippy tool, like a rubberized...

Efrain Perez: I've bought two of these already. One for me, (that has made its home with my mother.) Another was purchased for a nurse that helps take care of my father who is on hospice. Her back hurts from the constant need of having to pull and lift patients up. She paid for it herself but the original roller works so well for my mother, that she recommends it to everyone. The main reason I love this roller is because it eliminates some of the dangers that regular foam rollers can have on your lower back area, especially if you have spinal stenosis, deterioration of your disks due to arthritis, hernias or you're advanced in years. Regular rollers will go over your spine without contouring. When you have something pinched or moving, you'll accustom putting more weight on the roller. This is dangerous in your lower back because you don't have your rib cage protecting the area around the spine. The intelliroll will roll into the area between your spinous process, (instead of pushing right into it) and the inferior articular process. Also the contours are great for your legs and arms. If you get the firm roller and it feels too hard, try using it on a thick carpet, or even putting the roller in...

RoboCup: I purchased the Flex version and love it! The attention to detail in the design makes all the difference vs the less expensive foam rollers that I have tried thus far. With a short five minute session, I can focus on all my problem areas and feel better quickly. The 20" design actually fits my back vs. the mini foam rollers that are smaller in the 13" to 18" range. I hurt my back with a 13" foam roller because it slipped off the right place on my back. Ouch!
My wife uses this roller for her painful shins and she loves it. It's just the right firmness and shape to hit the right places. The included fold out guide was very helpful and anyone can quickly benefit from a quick personalized session.
Get one and your body will thank you. Worth every penny.

Max La Paz: I LOVE this piece of equipment. Thankful for the glossy how to poster/laminate that comes with it. Also that there are plenty of videos on YouTube for proper use. It is well built and solid. When I first used it on my back it was great to hear the snap, crackle and pop of it getting the knots out. That, and nothing touching my spine is really nice. Appreciate the coverage it provides. The one roll to get folks!
