S. Dimmig: The story is a page turner, the author pulls you into the book and makes you care and wonder about what is happening to Iain and Marion. It reminds me of Johanna Lindsay’s middle age novels.

I’m actually writing this review 4 1/2 years after I first read the book.
I’ve learned in my many readings of it that i never tire of it. It just improves every reading.
The characters are full of passionate chemistry and have wonderful personalities that endear them to you.
Marion and Iain are made for each other.
Lachlan, Cameron, Graham and Bridget make you long for future books that are planned and now written in this series.
Excellent book can’t recommend it enough.

Natasha: Julie has written a masterpiece here. The way the words of this story flowed and intertwined beautifully is mesmerizing. I could not put this book down because each page is a mystery that has me eager to turn the next page to find out what is going to happen next.
Iain, laird of a fierce clan in the highlands, was forced to marry Marion, a sassenach, by the English king in order to secure the release of the king of Scotland from being held captive by the English king.
In the meanwhile Marion father is plotting with an evil man to overtake the English throne. He pledged Marion’s hand to the evil man and they thought together they can overtake the throne.
That’s the reason why the english king ordered Iain to marry Marion before her father can execute his plot against him.
Iain is a widower who vowed never to remarry but he will do what is necessary to secure the release of the king of scots. Thus he take marion as a bride but he told her she will never have his heart as it belonged to his dead wife. Marion married him and he took her to the highlands where she encounter many difficulties because she’s not Scottish. But Iain started to develop feelings...

Sharon Lee Thomas: I enjoyed most of the story but found the leading character of Marion posed some contradictions. Our heroine displayed feistiness throughout the story except I was disappointed in her initial acquiescence upon meeting, marrying and bedding with Iain which took away some of the authenticity of who she was. Iain also appeared to be a fairly strong leading man, but I found him to be somewhat arrogant and "too perfect." Otherwise a good, quick, Scottish historical romance.

Julia McClure: I am almost finished this book, and while my Kindle is charging, I came on-line to see if there are anymore books in this thread. Luckily for me, there are, all of which I intend to read. I am thrilled to have found this author. The characters are daring with a full range of emotional intelligence. The plot is well written and textile - I can almost feel the cold mists of the Highlands. The men and women find themselves in fulfilling and sometimes difficult relationships that can be hard won. The dynamics and dialog between this cast of characters, rings true and authentic. It's easy to empathize with their various plights, which are at times laugh out loud funny as well as suspenseful and poignant. For me, this book is a perfect summer read.

lisa: This book has ingredient x that makes it totally engrossing from beginning to end. Lady Marion's abusive father forces her to marry his vile buddy. She is rescued by Laird Iain as part of a political exchange to secure the release of Scottish King David. Unloved all her life Marian is dismayed when Iain reveals he will never love her because of his dead wife.
Yes it's the old Rebecca plot including new wife being tricked into wearing dead wife's dress. But the author brings many fresh touches. As they travel to the highlands, bonking on every available patch of heather, Marion decides to fight for her marriage. There are also great subplots involving the dead first wife's bitter sisters. The evil fiancé is not far behind causing all sorts of mayhem.
This is a satisfying romance/ adventure with no dull moments and buckets of emotional warmth. I liked it enough to go looking for more books by this author.
