Marj2: Interesting history and lots of murders of people involved where you never were figuring out who was involved and why folks weretaping into the desire to gather some fast money. I'm ordering book #2 and taking the second book to bed, good night.

R.H. McCort: When Amazon suggested a new author Michael Lindley I was looking for something different to read. What I found was something a little different than my usual selection of books. Book 1 is basically two stories in one. Current day with Hanna Walsh finding out her husband Ben was murdered on a street in Charleston to finding out all the deceit of Ben, losing her home and a family home on Pawley Island that was in the family since the Civil War. The second part of the story switches to just after the Civil War and the story of Amanda Paltierre Atwell and the diary Hanna finds in the attic of the house on Pawley Island. Normally I do not like books that switch back and forth, however, this one was well written and made the individuals seem almost real life. As Hanna is introduced to Detective Alex Frank who is investigating Ben’s murder and Amanda is introduced to Heyward. The story spans more deceit, tragedy, betrayal and more threats. Looking forward to the rest of this series.

Gretchen: To me this book dragged along. There wasn’t enough detail in the parts I expected description or detail. 2 plots paralleled throughout the book about women in the same family generations apart. I choose the book because it was one of the recommended based on my previous Kindle reading selections. I hope the next in the series is more engaging.

Barbara Raue: Hanna Walsh’s husband is found murdered in Charleston, South Carolina and her life is not the same again. An old journal and a letter found in the attic tell about a distant grandmother’s experiences during and after the Civil War.
Betrayal is a part of the lives of both women. Ultimate salvation comes in unexpected forms.
A fascinating read as the author switches from present day happenings to Civil War happenings. I found it a smooth transition back and forth.
