I'm what you might call a technophile. My house is wired and automated everywhere. So of course my spouse bought this for me as it was the perfect gift. I loved it. I ignored "the haters" who complained of weird issues as just being non technical or one offs. I was SO wrong. Let me tell you about the Hamilton Beach Alexa Coffee Maker Death Spiral. Once it starts happening to you, your coffee maker is doomed.
It starts with a random message to clean your unit. At least that's how mine started. No problem, I cleaned it exactly according to HB specifications. But then it took a couple tries to turn it on after. Then the "Clean" message wouldn't go away. OK reset the maker by unplug and replug after 30 seconds. But then the screen was blinking rapidly like it had a short. The wifi wouldn't connect. Spent about 45 minutes getting the wifi connected and set it up in Alexa again, prepped it for coffee in the morning and went to bed. That worked for one day. The next night, no wifi again. I again had to reset the coffee maker as the lights were blinking rapidly but not responding to button presses. After working on it, trying things, cursing at...

Chris Blackstone: Okay I have had to have a couple of these units. First of all the one I originally got from Amazon had leaked from the bottom and clean water not coffee. Their customer service leaves a lot to be desired since the only way to contact them is either by filling out a form on their website or by sending them an email. They don't give any reason for not having a live customer service phone number with staff to answer your questions in real time. But, I figure they like a lot of other companies are probably using kovid as a crutch. That being said. I was able to get a replacement unit to replace the one that was leaking. Not to long ago I had experienced a issue where the front display stopped working and only the power light would turn on. I don't think I would recommend this product unless you are okay with a company that doesn't have as good of customer service. All of the negative stuff aside the machine while it was working as expected did brew a very nice cup of coffee and was easy to set up. Although I didn't care to much for how you had to scan a qr code to get it to work with your alexa.

Michelle J: It worked great the first few months. I have had it for just over two years and it has stopped turning on and is no good anymore. Plus the coffee started tasting bad no matter how often I cleaned it or what brand of coffee I used. The warranty is only for 1ura after purchase. I am disappointed in the quality of this coffee maker

TEN MONTH UPDATE: DID get added to Alexa APP at some point in last several months. The unit DID work fine for 3-4 months (95% of the time) - and LOVED it when it worked. However, the electronics board is already now failing. Lights simply flicker (clock, wi-fi indicators, etc.), and will not at all go into 'ready' mode. Have tried all the normal quick fixes - unplug, wat, re-plug... zero luck, and of course Alexa does not see the device again as the electronics board is presumably fried. Back to old school regular coffee maker.
Available on the Canadian Amazon site - we, like many, ordered it a few weeks ago. Shocked to learn today that many others are having the same issue. Seems the Alexa App in Canada does not have 'Coffee Maker' in the list of devices to add to your Smart Home as the instructions suggest. The 'Other' device option also does not appear to work. We have had no problems adding multiple echo devices, lighting control, garage door openers, thermostats, etc. Shame on Amazon for making this 'Quick Set-Up Smart Coffee Maker' available in Canada before it is truly ready to work. I was very excited to try this coffeemaker out since I have had great results with this brand in the past. One of my wife's favorite movies of all time is "Smart House" so it is one of my life's goals to get her home as close to that one as possible, minus the movie results, lol.
Right out of the box I was impressed with how well they secured everything. In fact, it is secured so well that you will want to take care using it for the first time as there are strips of tape on the front and back. Be especially mindful of the ones on the left and right of the coffee filter door as it could pose undue stress on it if the tape is not removed prior to opening.
The coffee maker has an excellent low profile that is narrow as well. (7.5 inches across and 13.5 inches tall.) This does not take up a lot of your space yet still delivers a perfect 12 cup pot of coffee! One of the features that I love the most is how EVERYTHING can be done from the front! You can add water and the coffee grounds without having to slide the entire coffeemaker out from under the cabinets. Momladyfsj: Works really well. Fun to have Alexa start the machine and nice to have coffee ready when I get to the kitchen. You do not have to reset the time when you unplug it or the power goes as Alexa does it for you automatically.
