Thomas L: trying to save space and get a decent cup so i went though i couple tries, pour over, french press even cappuccino maker :-/ i thought i would try this but wasn't really too enthusiastic about it. it's pretty pricey for a coffee maker, sorry but it is... but after using it only a few times, i fell in love already. coffee comes out HOT and tasty. i'm used to adding a couple extra scoops to get a stronger brew but i did that the firs time i used this and oh no... no need for me to add so much more. directions call for 1:1 and if you are ok with a decent cup that's probably perfect! i add a bit over, which comes to rounded scoops and it's GREAT
this no frills coffee maker seems to have hit just right. it comes with a long handle scoop with i like so i don't have to put my entire hand in the jar to scoop out coffee.
couple things though, which is why i can't give it 5 stars... the steam vent is in front of the machine so it collects a LOT of moisture around the front of the maker, which i dunno but seems like it's not a great idea when it can drip in to the carafe... AND having the coffee actually inside the carafe while seems like a great idea for space saving, if you're not...

Old Austin: I've had a Zojirushi rice maker for 20 years, and it still works perfectly. I carry two Zojirushi insulated water bottles -- one for hot, one for cold -- every single day, and they look fresh as the day I got them. This coffee maker is very highly rated by Wirecutter and other consumer rating services. I got tired of the strong bitter taste of my French roast coffee press, so I bought this small drip coffee maker on a flyer. Boy, was the right call. The coffee comes out perfectly. Unlike a lot of other coffee makers, there are no buttons and dials and programming and instructions you have to read. You put the water in the water tank (removable), you put the filter in the filter holder over the pot, you put one scoop of ground coffee in the filter for every cup you want brewed, and you switch on the only switch on the machine. Five minutes later, you have a perfect pot of coffee for one or two people. And everything is super easy to clean.

Dorothy Clark: Great little machine, A well made kitchen appliance that is easy to use & easy to clean, especially with a good dishwasher.. It does what it is suppose to do.
Amazon asked about the flavour. For me that is a very. personal experience and it depends mostly upon the type of coffee I prefer which may be very different from someone else's selection.
Simply put, it's a drip coffee appliance, you can't go wrong with this little unit.
Makes 5 cups, if you love coffee or you can share it with someone who likes the same flavour of coffee you do. It's not a Keurig. What's in the pot is all there is..

Julie: I like the Zojirushi brand but am disappointed with the Zutto. It makes a good cup of coffee but the carafe spills on pour….and not a small spill. I will likely return. $100 for an underperforming product is poor.

Stephan W Hewak: The Zutto makes coffee as good and hot as a drip can. It is compact, well built, cleverly designed, and has a very effective heating element. The unit eliminates the flavour deficit so many other drips have making small quantities and you enjoy a first rate cup of hot coffee. You may taste the full flavour spectrum of your blend for the first time.
The great design of the unit completely separates the water heating function from the coffee making function. Consequently, the Zuto is so much easier to clean and to stay that way. This, together with the removeable reservoir and good quality plastics support my strong recommendation. I expect my little friend to keep putting out hot delicious coffee for a very long time and will shop the Zojirishi brand again.

rowbat: I bought this as a replacement for an old Cuisinart coffee maker that I'd had for many years, partly because I thought it might produce a better tasting cup of coffee. Plus, I liked the look of it and also thought that a Japanese brand would be very high-quality. And I was pretty much right - this did make better tasting coffee than my old Cuisinart! The only downside compared to the Cuisinart was that it didn't have a timed off switch [which in some ways is a good thing, if you intend to leave a half carafe of coffee for more than 10 minutes]. It also didn't have an automatic shut off to stop water coming through if you were impatient to pour that 1st cup. Still, I really liked the machine. It looks and feels high-quality, and makes good coffee.

But a few months later I decided to go one step further, and I bought an espresso machine. After using an espresso machine it's virtually impossible to go back to drip coffee... :-). So after two months of use, this almost new, well-made little machine is on a shelf in the basement. Just something to think about.

CasioCasio: Hi, I was making coffee this morning using the coffee maker and as the hot coffee was spilling from the filter, the glass coffee jug cracked. I guess the coffee was hot and the jug couldn’t tolerate it so it cracked. As I stated, this is not my fault, but a manufacturing default. I am ok if you send me a replacement jug or a complete new coffee maker. Thank you

Corrinne Chong: The media could not be loaded.  Unfortunately, Amazon only permits one video per review -- otherwise, the skeptical would see that:

1. Pressing the "tab" (attached to the cone reservoir) down on the handle while pouring is NOT technically difficult: it requires the fine motor skills of a seven year old.

2. The lid covering the carafe will not fall off even when it is in a near-vertical position. I exaggerated the angle to prove my point. The lid, as with most of the components, is unattached so that it may be washed.

3. Removing the top lid is not as physically challenging as a number of reviewers have purported it to be. In fact, you you can remove it with the tip of one finger.

4. A size 2 filter does fit. The "fold along here" impressions on ALL standard cone filters are not for aesthetics: they have a function, i.e. stabilize the filter.

5. I did not have any issues getting water in between the water reservoir and the interior of the machine: just aim and pour! If this triggers your anxiety, pull out the water reservoir, pour, and re-insert. Voilà.

6. The coffee was steaming hot. I did NOT need to microwave my mugga java at all....

K. Jolley: The Zutto is stylish, the decanter looks huge for a 5 cup, it has to be though to hold the basket. the water is hot, Note for those that don't understand how coffee is made; it is the temp at the grinds we are concerned with not so much the temp at the cup. The temp at the grinds is required to extract the correct amount of flavor (if it is there, some brands don't have that much flavor to start with) along with the time that hot water is in contact with the grinds, is what makes the difference in a cup of coffee and a really good cup of coffee.

I read that someone verified water temp with a Digital thermometer at the water outlet. Temp range from 180 at the start to 208 at the end, and suggested preheating the water.
1- using the old maker, run 2 cups water, while placing filter and grinds in Zutto, then pour hot water into measuring cup =this case 8 oz, and that into Zutto, the rest into the mug/ thermal or ceramic mug will both benefit from preheat. OR
2. run the water thru the Zutto, pour measured back in to tank, rest into cup, then add grounds/basket and brew.
Personally, could not tell the difference with preheated water, did make a small noticeable...
