Sylvia Davis: I've read a lot of time travel Scottish romance and thought this would be the same old same old storyline. I was happily proved wrong. Great read.

GKT: I've read many historical romance books & this was missing the language of the correct century & the scottish accent. It felt like the people in this story were from the America 21st century. On other let down for me, is we only know the thoughts of one main female character, no one else.

D. Kuhlmann: Although I enjoyed the story, the beginning few chapters were slow and boring. The character throughout the book spent too much time in her head, rather than good dialogue with other characters to tell the story. Also, the heroine thinking she could best this war hardened, well muscled and large laird, was hard to believe, especially with her only being 5 feet tall. But, the other characters were a delight and the story was interesting, you just had to skim over the many head trips of the heroine.

First off I want to give a shout out to one of the supporting characters. Miss Nessie was and is one of my favorite Legends out of Scotland. Yes, I'm talking about the Loch Ness Monster.
Now about the book, lol.
Anna at first was not one of my favorite characters. She didn't realize fast enough for my taste that she was in medieval Scotland. But you put YOURSELF in her shoes. Would you be like yep I traveled back in time and then go on with life? She kept bad-mouthing Donal about his beliefs of what was expected of women. (duh. she was in medieval Scotland women were seen and not heard.). but I love her now how she put Donal in his place. How their love grew.
Donal is the new Laird. And it was him and Castle Urquhart to protect the Urquhart Village, even from themselves. Donal learns to trust Anna and her abilities to protect not just herself but those of his Castle and the Village.
This book was fast passed (even with Anna having trouble believing she was not where ever everyone said she was). I loved the bad elements that...

Book Maven: I have mixed feelings on this story for sure. The storyline itself was really good, but this story was basically about the heroine, and not so much about anyone else. Which was extremely disappointing, because there was a huge missed opportunity to make this story shine. I was really happy when the author chose to make the heroine a strong military woman with some supposed skills. She was supposed to be extremely skilled in martial arts, but there was absolutely no sign of that other than when she bragged about herself. Anna Clarke, the heroine, I found beyond irritating through most of the story. The way she thought about things, I swear gave me whiplash. For a woman dedicated to the military and supposedly had a military mindset, she acted and thought more like an immature teen. She thought that she was smarter and better at fighting as well as using swords and strategic fighting than 10 highlanders put together (author needs to do some serious research in regards to Scotland and the Highlanders.), seriously made me roll my eyes and drop points on my view of the story. Anna's sense of self righteousness and her internal dialogue was a serious turn off as a reader. She was...

Carol: This is a deeply frustrating book. A great story, excellent plot idea, spoiled by VERY BAD editing. At least a THIRD of this book should have been red-penned, and the plot moved along at a better pace, with better development.
Given it’s a romance, almost nothing happens until we’re about 80% of the way in.
A female soldier who is bored but yet does NO form of exercise? She complains about potential weight gain, but still NO exercise. Not believable.
There is far, far, far, too much extraneous inner monologue & not enough development of relationships or characters.
Constant repetition of her height, her skills, that it’s the 16th century, etc We know- we get it-stop with the repetitions.
It’s supposed to be the 16th century. Quite honestly, it’s better to approach this as a fantasy time travel than an historical one. Any 16th century detail is lacking, or more accurately, is mostly missing. The modern phraseology used by supposedly 16thc characters just jars, painfully. No one would say, ‘it’s a date’ for example.
Still.... I read (and skimmed over the irrelevant) to the end. I liked the notion of this modern female soldier going back in time....
