Julie Young: Good book

Jennifer C.: I have loved the Greek myths since I was a young child. As such, I am familiar with the story of how Zeus, spirited away by his mother who then tricked Cronos into eating a rock thinking it was the baby, grew up to challenge his father and defeat him, thus becoming the king of the gods.
After reading this book, I should probably say that I thought I knew the story. In reality, I only knew part of the story - the part of the story dominated by and told by men. Emily R. King takes this well-established mythos and reimagines it from the viewpoint of the women who were involved. After all, we know that Rhea was unhappy with the fact that Cronos continued to eat all of the children they had together. But just how would she have carried out her plan? And who else would have needed to be involved?
Althea is such a strong character from the very beginning. Though she blames her youngest sister for the death of her mother, she quickly realizes who the real enemy is; that realization - made at 7 though it was - stayed with Althea and cemented in her the absolute desire to see the dominance of men brought down.
I definitely enjoyed the final battle at...

Books in the Skye: I’ve read a lot of retellings of Greek Mythology. While there is a lot of different mythologies out there, the Greeks have always interested me. But a lot of the stories are told about Zeus, Hades, and Poseidon’s era. However, Emily decided to switch it up and tell from Cronus’ era. I loved this. It’s such a unique and different take that it was so refreshing to read a different version of this mythology. I will admit, I guessed a lot of it but there was still a little bit of twists in there. I loved this adventure and the bond between these sisters. There is so much that is done right and once I really got into the story I flew. I just ran into one issue. There are a couple of tropes that I just do not like, even if they are done very well done (as in this case) – I just can’t bring myself to get over them. In this case, it was the “I can do everything by myself and I don’t need anyone” trope. But oh wait! What happens when you all work together? There is so much more that can be achieved. While this isn’t throughout the whole book, it is very present and I just can’t help it. I do not like this trope. But Emily’s storytelling really helped me push through...

Talia C.: Reading the details of the book I had a very different idea of how this was going to play out.
I am a huge Greek mythology fan, and this book surpassed my expectations. Althea is a dauntless heroine that should be aspiring to all young women.
I can’t speak too much on this book without giving any of it away. But I will say that it’s extremely well written. You can tell that Emily R King did immense research on the mythology before writing it. This will forever be on of my top favourites.

HRob: A YA/NA Greek mythology story.
Three sisters Cleora, Bronte and Althea despise the God
Cronus (known for eating his children) and for treating females as inferior. Cronus is also responsible for the death of their mother Stavra as he got her pregnant and she died following the birth of a half Titan. Cronus sends one of his soldiers to retrieve the baby girl and the soldier brands Althea with an ownership mark vowing to return for her when she is of age.
When Althea is 18 she attends the town market and visits oracles, who tell her her fate and that she must find the Son of Cronus who has been hidden from him as he is the key to his downfall.
Althea journeys with Theo, a soldier who assisted her and her sister Bronte following Cleora’s capture and they encounter the boy god Zeus. Their travels have them meeting many of the gods - Helios, Selene, Eos who try and help them in their task of defeating Cronus.
There is always a twist and nothing is ever as it seems as the pull that Althea has had inside her has a greater explanation than she could ever have imagined.
A fascinating story of the Greek gods that kept me intrigued. I’m looking...

AyJay: I didn't really 'get into' this book until I was about a quarter of the way through it and almost just gave it up altogether, but once I got used to the more modern way that the characters talked I started to enjoy the ride - I get that the author made the character interactions more modern so that readers can follow along more smoothly, but I just kept taking steps back and was all "really?!"... however, this is a fantasy with the Greek Gods and mythical beings walking the earth, so I stopped being "this is totally unrealistic", and just went with it.
The story has some tropes that are pretty common in a YA book, but the setting and the author's creative use of creative license keeps things moving over the bumps and dull spots.
I enjoyed this enough to say that I'll be checking out the second book in the series at some point.

Laurie R: I took a risk as I don’t usually delve into Greek mythology novels. It was a slow start that gradually hotted up. Many layers in the story and as the fuller picture unfolded much excitement. I love the fact that women are the heroes. Just under a four star for me.
