Mick: This is my first review of a book, ever. Having seen so many reviews complaining about "complicated" recipes I felt compelled to see for myself. I'm always on the look out for cookbooks (especially Indian) with authentic and/or interesting recipes that are full of flavour - if the recipes are complicated, surely they must be interesting with lots of flavour, right? Wrong. I can't imagine what these people were complaining about. The sad reality is that the recipes in this book are very, very simple and the majority use very few spices and such small amounts of any spices actually used. It seems the author has given us dumbed down recipes that she thinks will suit a "Western" palate. Overall, the recipes are disappointing with only a small number using more than a couple of common spices. Is this really home cooked Indian food? Is this really representative of a successful Indian restaurant? I gave it 2 stars because the organisation of the recipes into the type of occasion is a nice idea - if only the food was as interesting. I feel like I've wasted my money. You'd do better to buy "Thali" by Maunika Gowardhan.

I find this book technical lots and lots of complex methodology.
Will gather dust or go to charity shop

Wildcat2019: Asma Khan is a legend and her book is every bit as good as the restaurant. The recipes are homestyle and dont have bog-standard Westernized Indian food. If you're looking for saag paneer and chicken tikka masala, this is not for you.

Laura S.: Ate at the restaurant in London and was sad I didnt have enough room in my luggage to buy the book. Glad to see the e-version has America-friendly units :-) The roti recipe was the only one that seemed a little off, but I was able to adjust with more liquids.
