R RILEY: 1. Unit causes severe dehydration in a small place - and small spaces are what these are designed for.
2. I am FURIOUS that I went to return this and was required to pay the POSTAGE myself. I am a PRIME member but with this seller I still have to pay $89. This item cost $119 already! !!! RIP OFF !!!!

Anja : So I have to refill the water tank every 3 hours or beeps like crazy, there's no way to leave the cooling setting on all night because of this which sucks cause night here don't cool down much. The fan opening is only half of what is shown, like the right side is just plastic. And its only quite on the first setting, anything higher and it drowns out what your listening to and makes it hard to take phone calls.

Sean Walsh: I got this to use as a humidifier. My old water wheel humidifier broke its belt and there are no longer any replacements made. I bought a humidifier that they call evaporative ( it use a wicking material that costs $30.00 dollars and only lasts a couple of weeks ) what a rip, so I bought this one because it says it has a washable filter, but it appears to be made out of paper as well, so I am not holding out much hope for this unit either. But we will see as I have only had it a couple of weeks. These evaporative or wick style are pretty much useless but it seems there are
no longer any one willing to manufacture the portable whole house water wheel style humidifiers.

Mrs. Mildew: This Costway air cooler is the second I've purchased; both are brilliantly designed, handle the Arizona heat very well in small areas, and are very light weight so seniors can easily move them. The fatal flaw in this particular unit is that the casters refused to go into the holes. It took me well over an hour to enlarge the holes with makeshift tools, and finally got the casters most of the way in using large pliers as the little wrench is useless. Furthermore, leaving off the casters won't work because their height is essential to clear functional parts on the bottom of the unit. I got into such a lather that I nearly gave this review one star. The most infuriating defects are the kind that are missed by quality control, hardly worth returning the item for, yet essential to the operation; and if your DIY fix doesn't work you are stuck with a costly return shipping bill (unless the vendor qualifies for Amazon Prime, which Costway doesn't despite their great prices). In short, I highly recommend these excellent Costway mini swamp coolers, but have a tranquilizer handy just in case.

Teresa K.: First of all, this thing does not cool down an entire room. We had to put it on our nightstand right next to our faces in order for the cool air to reach us (Yes we used very cold ice water, it still sucks). Secondly, it will start to smell after 2 weeks. The system splashes water internally, which soaks the cardboard air filter (yes, the filter is made of cardboard). This results in a moldy filter and murky gross water being used to "humidify" our room. We still tried to clean everything and make the best of it, because we didn't want to accept that the $130 we spent was a total waste. A few days later, it leaked everywhere, ruining furniture and a giant spot on our carpet. Do not buy.

Using regular ice cubes & cold water
Followed instructions & did not fill water tank to maximum, about 1/4 inch below maximum level with about 1/2 liter of ice cubes.

Cooling Effect
Using cooling setting significantly cools the air coming from the unit, you can feel it even in low setting. Once wet pad was soaked with cold water, air became moist and soft, very pleasing air blast that cooled the space to what felt like low to mid 70's.

Moisture
Using cooling setting creates a good amount of moisture in the space
Water tank filled with cold water & ice 1/4 inch below max line lasted 3 hrs before refill in 89 degree weather with 71 % humidity.

Ivan Ramirez: Fan on high is pretty strong. The only negative is that the water runs out too quickly. I highly suggest finding a model that can hold a gallon of water or more, the gel packs don't stay frozen for long especially on 80 degrees or higher days. Tip: Fill the water compartment with nearly frozen water about 1/4 of the way freeze water in 8oz silicone cups and place 3-4 in the water tank this will keep the air cool for a while and repeat. You can also purchase an ice machine and keep filling the tank as needed.
