Handyman Dave: I wanted to say I love this lamp and at first, I did. I do love the neck. It's surface is as smooth as is it's ability to stay in the position I put it. I like it's adaptability, too. Being able to use it either on my desk or on the floor next to to me is very useful. All the parts needed for the conversion seem very well made. It's plenty bright enough and the color changing feature is valuable to me.
What I don't want or need is a remote control for a lamp, a remote which doesn't even come with the 2 required AAA batteries! I really wish the buttons on the lamp itself were more responsive. Sometimes I have to push a button a number of times before it does anything. Does it take a light touch or a hard push to operate them? I dunno, there's no movement in the buttons, no click, no sound... nothing to tell me what it wants me to do to get them to work the first time every time. I don't have any confidence that this will get easier. I wish they'd have put the resources that went into the remote into better lamp controls instead. I can't think of a good reason to include a remote control to operate something marketed as a task lamp that's intended to be used for crafts,...

Phil, NJ: The clever design of this lamp means it can be used as a floor lamp, a desk lamp or clamped onto a flat surface like a workbench. It's solidly constructed.
The included remote has 3 preset brightness levels - 20%, 50% and 100% and a separate night light button. It also has 3 preset color buttons - warm (yellow light), cool (white light) and in-between. It also has separate brightness + and - buttons and separate color + and - buttons; these buttons and the color and brightness buttons on the touch panel (on the lamp itself) give even more control - I counted 4 brightness levels and 5 colors.
Here are a few more dimensions (all dimensions approximate), which you might find useful:
The electrical cord is 6' in length. An earlier reviewer had it at 4', so maybe they're making it longer now.
The round base is 9" in diameter.
When used as a floor lamp, you use two poles, each of which is 16" long (I guess you could use just one).
The touch panel adds 6" to the height of the lamp.
The gooseneck is 20" long.
The lamp head is 10" x 2 1/2".
