You have to make sure you are cleaning the pump itself weekly. Make sure to take it completely apart. There is a magnetic piece inside that has the propeller attached to it that pulls the water through it. It will get hard water deposits if you're just using tap water. I went out of town for a few weeks and forgot to tell my husband to clean the pump. It stopped working due to mineral deposits and he threw it away and just ordered a new pump lol.
Just take the whole pump apart. Clean with soap and water to get any dirt or pet hair out of the screen of the outside of the pump. Once you have it completely taken apart, just let it soak in straight white vinegar for an hour or so, unless it's really bad. I usually let it soak for a couple of hours, however we do have two water fountains for our pets. So I just clean one at a time. If you keep it clean it should last a while.
It's very quiet as long as you keep the water level up. If it gets too low, it will get a little bit louder. Also remember if the water level gets way too low where the pump is unable to pump water, the pump will eventually burn out and stop working. Then for sure you...

This pump works in my cat fountain, even though it doesn't actually fit in the "bordered" area at the bottom of the fountain. The pump body is a little larger than the original but all I had to do was insert the pipe into the top piece of the fountain (a firm fit) then lower it all to the bottom and allow the suction cups to do their thing. It is very quiet and pumps better than the original. I didn't think I would care about the added led light but I love it! It makes the fountain glow blue, a great nightlight. Very happy with this product and this seller.
