charlescharles: I've been using the Hygger 24V DC Saltwater Aquarium Pump for nearly two years, running it at full capacity continuously. For most of that time, it was a superb performer - providing excellent water flow and control options for my aquarium setup.

However, after nearly two years of solid use, the power supply unexpectedly failed - and in a rather dramatic way. Without any prior signs of malfunction, the plug actually caught fire. Thankfully, I was at home when this occurred and was able to address the situation swiftly, averting a potentially severe incident.

Despite the pump itself performing admirably for a considerable period, this incident with the power supply was undeniably concerning. It's a stark reminder of the importance of being vigilant about electronic equipment and their power supplies.

While I appreciate the pump's robust performance, the failure of the power supply and the related safety risk cannot be ignored. Hence, my rating is 3 out of 5 stars. Be aware of this potential issue if you're considering purchasing this pump.

Isaac: I have a 40gal planted freshwater tank with a 10gal sump. I know it's unusual to have a sump setup for a planted tank, but I liked having all the tank systems hidden out of sight of the show tank.

I started with an AC pump, but it was far too loud and difficult to control. This 800GPH DC pump was a perfect replacement. It's almost entirely noiseless. I have to stick my head in the sump area to be able to hear the faint hum.

The LCD controller is easy to use, and settings are preserved after power cycles, which is handy as I have the pump set to 30% for relatively calm flow, so restarting at 100% would screw up my hydraulic system balance.

It has no issues priming and easily overcomes the 4' or so of head height between the sump and the top of the show tank. It should only be pumping clean return water, so I haven't tested it with any particular matter or saltwater.

We'll see how the lifespan is over time. 8months of use so far without issue.

Amazon Customer: Have been involved in the saltwater aquarium hobby for a loooonngg time. As anyone who has… you’ll agree… a lot of the products being produced these days just isn’t on the level of what was #magdrive/danner.

Purchased this pump to replace (no lie) a 20 plus year old magdrive 1200 that went up.

After a lot of reviews… as well as 1-2 disappoints… purchased a hygger. Well made, super quiet, very powerful!

I appreciate the flow/ volt control. No more having to get down on the floor to adjust an in-line flow ball valve!

Only reason I did not give it 5 stars.... I cannot get the pause flow feature to work. Remote acknowledges me pushing the button, but flow the continues.

All in all… I would recommend it. So much soo… will be replacing both a magdrive 700 and 500 upon their going up. Both are also 20 plus, but are of much better quality than what’s being offered new today!
