gummy eater: This book was an eye opener in so many ways. It was the choice of the women’s book club I’m part of and at first I didn’t think it was going to help me at all since I thought I hadn’t been in a toxic relationship. Came to find out I was the toxic one. Ouch! A lot of what I done was due to decades of abuse, that started when I was as young as 8 years old, by my own father. As they say, hurt people hurt people. I’ve hurt people, I’ve hurt myself. And right now I’m a work in progress of a better me. I wish I could say “thank you so much for changing my life, Jackson”, but I hope that this comment at least encourages somebody else to give this book a try, just like I did, and hopefully, by the time you finish it, you’ll be several steps closer to your true self, as I am. RIP Jackson, you were an angel yourself, and your legacy is to give hope and encouragement to so many people, and a needed reminder that everyone deserves unconditional love. I hope that you all can find this unconditional love in the same person as I did: God. Grace and peace.

Brianna Weldon: My therapist shared with me an excerpt from this book about the protective self behaviors and that helped me move forward tremendously. When I read the book after, I started to understand what was fueling the protective self and had to learn to love on the shame and hurt inside me by giving it space and not trying to silence or distract myself from it.

I felt BAD for several days and now I notice I don’t feel as bad as I used to when things happen. I really feel like this was critical healing work that wasn’t just understanding of changing but actually healing.

And I learned so much about my pervasive codependency. He talked about it such detail that I am able to consider how this construct shows up in various areas of my life.

Great book.

laura: I've been suffering from severe symptoms of C-PTSD and was feeling so incredibly hopeless and broken. I kept trying to describe the feeling of having a void in my heart, feeling numb but in pain, feeling like I was dying and no one seemed to get it. Within the first chapter he literally described what I've been feeling for so long and it made me feel two things: one, so relieved and two that I wasn't alone.

Throughout this book he teaches you how to start un-numbing or feeling and identifying the different emotions that arise when you've been through emotionally abusive relationships. He also teaches you how to start healing from them too. The way he writes is so easy to understand and it feels like you're just talking with a friend that gets it. He's done the work and in sharing his path it guides you to start walking and or making your own.

I will be forever grateful for this book and cannot even begin to express how much I'd recommend it to anyone that has also experienced emotional abuse. Thank you so much Jackson for this incredible gift.

Anonym: My dear friend who just got off from a toxic relationship recommended me this book after she saw me struggling to heal from a traumatic relationship discard. This book is one of the highly recommended books in the online support group. I didn't bother to check it before as I was already in therapy and had started my healing journey.... Though I am doing much much much better now, but I had reached a plateau and could not stop ruminating on the traumatic events, gaslighting, rages/tantrums and discards.

Through this book, I have identified the gaps in my healing journey. The book was on point on its desctiptions of toxic relationship survivors, especially on the struggles we have and the thoughts that haunt us. Most importantly, the book gives clear suggestions on how to be finally whole again. To embrace our painful emotions so we can release these unpleasant emotions. To look inward and reconnect with our true selves. To stop seeking external validations on our traumas. To finally realise that it is really them, not us, and it is nothing personal.

The toxic people will feel triggered because they may not be able to accept the fact that they inflict such pain and...

MamaBoomBoom: Even though I’m a published writer with an an MFA from a top-ranked program, I’m embarrassed to say that I don’t write reviews often. However, I absolutely must write a review for this book I just finished reading. My god. I actually cried when I read the last sentence of the book—CRIED at the end of a self-help book! I mean, I cried throughout the book because this book makes you do a lot of emotional/psychological work. Why else would you get this book if you didn’t need to do that?

I’m assuming that you need to do a lot of work psychologically if you’re looking at this title, and I’m guessing that maybe you’ve looked at and probably read a lot of books like this. Let me tell you that this book stands out from the rest in the way this author speaks to his reader. Forget the fact that he is not a licensed psychotherapist or psychiatrist. His personal experience as an abuse survivor and the work he did on his first book, Psychopath Free, and the nonprofit he created stemming from that has allowed him to develop the frank, no-bs, straight-talking voice that he uses to impart the great stores of knowledge, wisdom, and research that he shares with his...

jericorn: This book is amazing, let me start with that.
I've already recommended it to 5 people, 4 of which who went out and bought it after I showed them three specific pages.
It is very insightful, and has a lot of useful knowledge.

My only issue is that the author used what appears to be fake conversations with people as if he was a therapist (Although he notes in his book that he is absolutely not that). In these "conversations" he writes about, I got the feeling that he often inserts himself as a superiority figure because HE himself has been able to realize whatever message he is trying to get across, but this poor poor soul does not yet realize what he does. So he assigns the person some supposed "homework" to work on the issues even though he is not a therapist himself. He will often state the issues of trying to play therapist to other people throughout this book, but I feel like he lacks his own self reflection and ability to call himself out on his own bull. I feel like he has a bit of his own ego inserted into the book that is surprising to see throughout all of the other very helpful information. Here is one example I am speaking of:
