AustinAustin: Had to build a light holder and light works great, only down side is out of the two fans only one is working!! I would give this light five out of five but the defect. Overall easy to set up and super powerful light. I fear it’s gonna give me problems down the road but after set up I was very happy. If you looking for a light I would say this one is a good alternative but check all of it before throwing the packing away

Alan Cherney: It would be nicer to have finer programming control for a gradual sunrise or something, but this is such a good product for hte price point. 5 stars

Amazon Customer: Deceptively very powerful, recommend starting around 30% on the power cause you can really cook corals with this. Color is great.

I ran it 8 inches about water line for my 125 gallon, while I didn't realize how strong they were, i ran them around 80% and have a massive leather toadstool coral, but bleached a birds nest. Turned it down and everything seems happier.

Definitely worth the price, they're so strong compared to super expensive reef lighting. Only downside is you have to build a mount to them if you don't have the ceilings for it, they are heavy and you're not going to find something similar to kessel or radian to mount to the tank itself. Requires a lot of DIY work to get them installed safely.

Daisys Mama: The remote could have a more gradual control options when changing the brightness settings but overall it works well and does the job as intended.

Arvid Danielson: I've had two of the older version of this light over my 120g 48x24x25 tank for several years and I couldn't be happier with them. On one of them the blue lights stopped working recently, so I bought a new one to replace it. At first, when I realized the the incremental brightness control on the new one was now in increments of 10 to 100, rather than 1 to 100 on the older version, I was concerned that the ten setting would be too bright for my corals, since I kept the older version set at two. Some reviews and other third party blogs also expressed concern that a ten setting would blanch or scorch their corals, so I was also concerned. However, I installed the new replacement light on the right side of my tank and set it for 10/10 brightness. I don't have any special equipment like PAR meters or whatever, but just based on my mark one eyeball, it looks like the 10/10 setting on the new light on the right is pretty darn close to the 2/2 setting on my old light on the left. I haven't made any comparisons at the higher settings; I'll leave that to someone else. I just wanted to let those who keep the old version to lower settings know that they don't necessarily need to worry about...

Sasha T.Sasha T.: I've had a pair of 165w Viparspectras over my 60 gallon tall mixed reef aquarium for two years, and could not be happier.
If you like the idea of a pronounced shimmer effect, wifi settings, ramping up/down, sure this light doesn't do any of it, and the item description says it outright.

More importantly, if you want a light that will produce spectrum and par levels that allow you to grow soft coral, LPS coral, and YES SPS coral, this light is up to it, and you can see examples of all in my aquarium.

An awesome entry level light that doesn't need to be replaced or upscaled for different coral.
A great light when you just want it to work, and save you a little $ to spend on bigger coral.

Eugene LaVoe: I purchased two of these lights to put over my 65g reef. Following advice online I cracked the units open and 'hacked' them to remove all of the lenses except around the outer perimeter to give better spread. (The lenses on the inner side of both fixtures, where they're next to each other, were also removed.) I was impressed to see that there're some decent measures taken to prevent salt creep from invading through the plexi window at the bottom of the light from splashes -- there's both a bead of silicone and a gasket. However, you'll still be out of luck if you drop the thing in the tank.

With the bottom of the fixtures about 10" above the surface of the water and the light set at 75/30 I was getting PAR of about 275 mmol about 8 inches down, and about 125-185 on the sand (with the highest levels at the bottom in the middle of the tank where both fixture's coverage overlapped.) With the lenses removed discoballing is reduced and more light reflects back off the sides of the tank internally, giving better light to otherwise shadowed areas. However, the top of my tank is fully enclosed by a hood; keeping the lights this high with no lenses might be intolerable otherwise, if...

RobRob: Just picked this up today. Definitely one of the better black box LEDs. I really like the purple and blues together. It makes a nice difference.

The one thing I don't like is how white 1% is on the white channel. It's crazy bright for 1%. This would be very ideal for even a planted tank. Right now I have it set at 60 blue 1 white and its lighting my tank nicely. I believe the light could use some more blues or lighter blues to help with the over powered whites.

Corals seem to like it already and well all know this light will definitely put out enough par to grow some high demanding sps corals.

But at the end of the day this light is gold for the money. You won't find this kind of power/quality for any cheaper. All in all its a really great light.

Amazon Customer: I have the light set up with my own temporary hanging setup over my 45 gallon reef tank now and it looks fantastic, but I can't for the life of me figure out the timer, the instructions are pretty straight forward but both channels seem to be on the same spectrum of white and not blue? And also I'm missing the hanging set which was supposed to be included and I have no idea how to go about getting a replacement?! I'm giving the product a 4 star because the light is good and it is very bright but the problems with the timer and the missing hanging equipment is very frustrating...
