GAUTHIER Rébecca: Très bon livre, j'ai pris une version d'occasion qui est arrivée dans l'état décrit.
Le livre est très bien édité, les photos sont très jolies, très beau pour offrir.
Les recettes semblent faisable sans avoir besoin de moults ingrédients difficiles d'accès.

Rearden Steele: I have an extensive collection of the best Japanese Cookbooks. This is one of the best even though written by a American from Wisconsin. Who cares what you think about this guy. These are great recipes with wonderful photographs that go with the recipes. Data from the longest lving Japanese prefectures suggest that Janese people from these l prefectures are the longest living proples in the world. These people's are mostly but not entirely vegetarian. Vegetatian in this context means fish eating. Outside of vegetarian pork is also eaten. Judging by the literature meat is seldom eaten at most at about once a week or during special occasions.

For the above reasons, I enthusiastically recommend this book.

Knives: Honestly, it's on me to not do my research and realize this guy isn't doing any shojin ryori cuisine and has a tenuous connection to the cooking culture he's writing on in general (thought it was good of him to say he wouldn't be able to do the cultural/spiritual depth of shojin ryori cuisine justice... not sure why he felt he could do general Japanese cuisine cultural justice judging by how he constantly acts like the traditional ingredients are super weird and foreign), but I'd recommend passing on this book unless you're just looking for something pretty to put on the shelf. It's your pretty standard uninspired vegan substitution recipes that falls short of both creating something new and interesting or recreating the original cuisine in a satisfying way. Wish I hadn't forgotten to return this before my return window closed lol.

A.S. ForestA.S. Forest: JapanEasy is approachable, has easy directions and lots of photos. Everything can be had at your local supermarket or just order online!
The Author goes thru basic seasonings, sauces, how to cook Japanese rice, gives directions on how to assemble dumplings and sushi. The Mock Meat Menchi Katsu (fried vegan patties) are very tasty, Jackfruit Karaage has a sriracha/sesame/sake marinade. Everything I've made has come together easily and tasted very good. And most importantly, he jokes around! Easy going which is nice :)

David Harper: I'll be using this book a lot. I ordered it having been treated to some of the recipes by a family member.

I was rather disappointed that the packing didn't protect the hard cover sufficiently, and 2 of the corners had become squashed in transit. A good job I hadn't bought it as a gift.

5 stars for the book, 2 for the packing

Ms Emily T Joffe: I have been reading cookbooks and experimenting for years (vegan for 20 years) and usually with a cookbook, if you get one or 2 recipes which work then it's worth it. I have tried at least half a dozen from this and they have all been quite delicious. The gyoza filling smelled and tasted so good that I nearly ate it before I made them and I cooked them a second time for friends who aren't vegan and they said they were as good as restaurant ones. The assembly instructions are easy to follow and the recipes are easy - with substitutions possible if you can't source some of the ingredients. I don't usually write long reviews but this book is worth having if you like Japanese food.

LW: I love everything about this book. I love the matt finish of the cover. I love the purple edges of the pages. I love the layout and the writing style. I haven't tried any of the recipes, but they look really good. Honestly, I wouldn't even care if I never cooked any of the recipes because it's such a pleasure to just look this book!

Akara Lev: My reason for writing this review is twofold: one is to note what a wonderful cookbook this is and second to let people know that the one-star review on Amazon is totally untrue – perhaps about another book?? This book does not start with anything about Woody Harrelson or any of the nasty things the reviewer mentioned. [I have reported this review, but to date, Amazon has not removed it.]

I have purchased all of Tim Anderson’s Japanese cookbooks and recommend all of them. I find them very accessible with a lot of good information. The recipes I’ve tried have all worked and were very good.

This is not a shojin ryori cookbook. Mr....
