Cristina Paiva: Overall I really enjoyed reading this book. It contains a lot of helpful info and is a great resource for those wanting to transition to holistic pet care! Many of his suggestions I was already implementing prior to reading, which was reassuring. However, there were a couple of things I did not agree with. For one, I do not agree with feeding your dog pasta/gluten and would stick to whole organic foods (meats/veggies/fruit/whole grains/eggs). While I do agree that a vaccine for Lyme disease is not the solution, Lyme is not something to be minimized or downplayed. It can take a very serious toll on both humans and animals and is way more prevalent than he makes it out to be all around the country/ other parts of the world.

Dasina: I like this book so much I bought it twice!
I have my older copy to a friend and then I wanted to look something up and I couldn’t so I bought it again. I gave away 5 books but this is the only one I replaced with a new copy.
The information is a little bit dated as it was wrote something like twenty years ago but it is still all relevant. He writes in an easy to understand way that a person can zip through. It’s easy to take notes as the layout is nice. There are a few recipe ideas in the book and it was easy for my to jot them down in a notebook.
He covers pretty much all issues related to dogs and has natural ways of treating them. There are a few herbs mentioned although this is not an herbs for dogs book.
All in all this book might be a little older but it is still well worth the purchase and the read through.

Amazon Customer: Well written and informative book on animals (dogs/cats). It answers most questions on feeding and care of your animal. For instance, feeding real food, in comparison, to dog food benefits your animal 100% more. For more information it is vital that you read the book.

Catherine: This book was an absolutely phenomenal read. I usually read books in a day or two, sometimes a week. This book was so dense and had so much great information that it has taken me over a month to finish it and I enjoyed every minute of it. It was informative without bogging me down with unnecessary information or scientific jargon that I wouldn't understand. This book is truly a treasure trove of information provided by Dr. Goldstein on the best way to keep pets healthy in a holistic manner. I loved his book so much that I drove two hours to have my puggle, Baby, treated there. We had recently found out that he had collapsing trachea. It presented as a terrible honking cough that made it extremely hard for my poor boy to breath. We took him to our regular conventional veterinarian. She took some x-rays and told us that the collapsing trachea was very pronounced. She did not believe that we should perform the stent surgery (supposedly the only treatment for such an ailment) as she felt it would only last a year or two at most and there were many potential complications. When we asked her what else we could do, she basically told us that he needed to lose some weight, offered to give...

mg: Dr Goldstein was far ahead of his time, in 1998, on subjects such as over-vaccination, alternative approaches and, especially, creating conditions to allow the body to heal itself. As a graduate of Cornell (an absolutely super vet school), he knows when to apply Western medical practices and when to take the 'softer' approaches.
I was lent the book by a friend, and when she wanted it back I decided that I needed my own copy, both for myself and to lend to friends who have animals.
As the 'better half' of a veterinarian who knows when to use what he learned in vet school and when to use acupuncture or recommend chiropractic or osteopathy, I've seen some startling results from holistic treatments. Dr Goldstein's book just put a kind of order to what I'd already seen and read, and added a great deal of new (to me) information.
I can't recommend this book too highly. MG

Nicki Penaluna: My Golden Retriever was diagnosed at six months of age with flea alergy dermatitis. Since then she has suffered with huge raw hotspots everywhere. She has been injected with cortizone, taken antibiotics, had her diet changed so many times and succumbed to very aggressive flea treatments to try to help her. (She is nine years old) For the past two years her front leg has been permanently bandaged whilst I tried to stop her from biting it to the bone!
That is why I bought this book! I put her on the diet suggested. This week marks the second week. The bandages are no longer there. The fur has begun to grow. She has fleas but they are longer bothering her, and I shall adopt a wait and see policy before I treat her with insecticides. She is running, joyous and a transformed dog. That is enough for me - I am joyous too!
I wait to see how the diet and other treatments work for my two arthritic Dobermanns, but they are more long term cases, and will need more time. They are certainly more content and the one with Wobbler Disease is walking again.
If you value the health and wellbeing of your dog or cat - then this book should be on your bookshelf. A lot of the supplements are...

T.Cosy: I had never thought to question commercial pet foods until reading Martin Goldsteins book and since changing my cats diet to real fresh food and raw thus my cats health has glowed 'dramatically' with health like never before!
The over-active thyroid problem my cat has suffered from likely due to years of eating commercial petfood rubbish has started to become near normal again which the vets said could never happen.
I only wish i had known the truth about commercial pet-foods years ago because if I had its very likely my cat would never have got ill in the first place.
The difference in my cats health has so radically increased for the better that i shall never buy shop pet-foods ever again.
Its actaully quite easy to prepare meals for your pets once you get into it, for example I buy organic beef-mince which costs under £3 and add brown rice, a small amount of flax seed oil, cod liver oil, liquidised-veg & then portion it out into freezer bags & pop in the freezer and that makes me approx 19 meals for my cat and she loves it and I find it works out slightly cheaper than buying the shop stuff.
Martin Goldsteins book is a life saver! and has...

DB: This is a wonderful pet health book and a great introduction to holistic pet care (or holistic medicine in general). My mother is a nurse, and I've always had pretty healthy eating habits and have taken care of myself. However for some reason it never occurred to me to apply that idea to my dog until I started hearing about feeding fresh food to dogs. I started researching about pet health since my dog had his tumor removed, and I wanted to keep him as healthy as possible in his old age. This book and its assertions about how to keep your pet healthy through diet and natural healing methods are unconventional, mind-blowing, and yet, so completely sensible that you wonder how people who love animals could have been duped to slowly kill their pets by feeding them waste materials of the food industry, suppressing their natural warning systems (i.e. illness/allergy symptoms), and poisoning by way of conventional medicine. How could we have ever believed that "table scraps" (i.e. real food) is bad for our pets? It makes you wonder about your own health, too. I now feed my dog home-cooked food, supplementing with human-grade kibble when I don't have time. He no longer smells bad just a...
