JC: I got this originally to test a few mechanical hard drives I had sitting around and soon discovered that it worked great with an internal CD-RW I had doing nothing so it saved me from buying an enclosure that I had been looking at. With USB3 its very fast.

Luke J. Irwin: My older computer that I was pretty much using for storage refused to boot up anymore. It contained thousands of photos and the bulk of my music. I looked into a data recovery service, but their prices were insane. I talked to a friend of mine that is more tech-savvy than I, and told me to get a USB/sata cord. The first one I bought didn't work, evidently I needed a powered cord as the USB wasn't enough to power it. I made the connections with this cord and "boom", I had access to all my files. I made copies of everything, but I kept the recovered hard drive as a back up now that I can easily access it. I couldn't be happier, it was a cheap and effective fix.

TechHead: Not as good as opening up my backup drive and swapping the disk. Also doesn't require external power, whereas this one does most of the time.

Amazon Customer: This item is perfect for getting your old data off your old hard drive. Simple and easy to use. Looks well made, I would recommend this item. My only negative point is that the usb cable is to short, and needs to be bigger.

James (UK): I bought this to allow me to connect several Samsung HD204UI-model hard disk drives via USB3.0 but found that no matter what I tried, the connection would continually be "dropped" then re-established, as if someone was pulling the plug out of the computer repeatedly. Doing some research, I've established that this is a known issue with some Samsung Spinpoint F4EG drives (see https://www.google.co.uk/webhp?q=samsung+hd204ui+usb3.0), including my own as above. I did update the firmware as per http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/223571en?language=en_US, but to no avail.

The item comes in a well-made cardboard box, and looks a far better quality than one would expect for the price; even the USB plug has a cap on it which is something I've not seen on products unless they are towards the top-end price bracket.

The company themselves took the time to respond to a question I posted here, showing they are customer-focussed, and true to their word, the item was delivered with a UK-compliant power adaptor with three-pin plug.

I've tried it with other brands of HDD and it has been flawless. No installation itself, but plugging in different HDDs sees Windows 7...

but
the usb 3 lead is to short i did try at 1 metre and a 2 metre usb 3 extention lead which would not work
that not good would been better with is own usb 3 lead and not build in one.....
still good for the money......
