Like to carve small figurines and mounting the raw wood to this vise makes the process easier and safer. The base and attachments make it easy to rotate the wood into virtually any position and once there it will hold it in place. As you can tell from the photo I mounted the base to a piece of plywood and then clamped the plywood to the bench. This is very sturdy and I can even hammer on the chisels and it does not move so accuracy is great. I purchased model 301 which includes the 300 base and model 303 vise. I also purchased the model 337 flat head which is in the picture. Since the mouth of the model 303 vise is fairly small (maybe opens to 2 1/4 inches) it was too small for me as figurines are simply too big for it but the flat head works great. Something to think about if you're buying this. Bottom line is this is a very reasonably priced and well made product with lots of options for attachments. Should last for many years.

Michael Moore: The vide is just what I was looking for. Would have been better if it came with mounting screws.

Amazon CustomerAmazon Customer: This thing is so awesome it makes me cry I didn't discover it 30 years ago. Super good quality, does everything they claim it does. So glad I bought this instead of one of the low-cost Chinese mini-vises. This is one of those products where you still do get what you pay for. I bolted it to a length of steel rather than the countertop so that I can tighten down the steel tube in the big vise, not having it in the way when not in use. Prefect for delicate gunsmithing work; gentle enough to hold a slide or frame, strong enough to pound out stubborn roll pins. Can't recommend it enough.

Rossy: So I bought this mini vise for my current hobbies, repairing watches but mostly to hold the circuit board while soldering. I bought it thinking that that it would be a crappy vise made of plastic. BOY WAS I WRONG!!!! This vise is AWESOME, it is made out of metal, has a perfect weight to it and is more than enough for what I need. In fact, it surpassed all of my expectations and I know I can use much heavier items with this vise. Also, the flexibility of this tool to basically rotate to any degree and being able to lock at any position that I need is fantastic. I know I sound like a salesperson but I could not have been happier with this purchase. Ohhh and the balance of it is solid. Thanks to the makers and kudos to the seller of this magnificent vise.

Tb320: I've only had this for a couple of weeks and already it has earned its keep. One reviewer mentioned build quality was a bit lacking and had to oil the shafts for smoother operation. I had no issues with that. I debated ordering the base for extra weight but glad I didn't. For my uses, mostly electronic stuff around the ham shack, the vise is plenty stable for holding cables and circuit boards. The size and weight make it more portable too. When not in use, i just put it on the shelf out of the way. The vise replaced a little gizmo that had alligator clips and a magnifying glass on it. It was forever tipping over as it was too light. The PanaVise wasn't the cheapest unit but past experience with quality products from this company were good.

TheNasher: Grips things pretty well, and the modularity and extensibility is the best in the business!
Only reason i didn't give 5 stars is because the finish on the metal pivot ball was so rough i had to sand it down to get a smooth action.

Norm De Plume: I got two of these model 301s and one model 201 vises to facilitate working on a model ship I'm starting on. I read the few negative reviews at Amazon on both models but went ahead with the purchase because I prefer to buy American on those extremely rare instances where it's possible.
Bam! Score! Both models are exquisitely well made and functional. They do exactly what I need for them to do and I couldn't be happier. Excellent quality.
One "feature" I needed was the option to mount these to a board I could move around my work table. Most other options were the kind that c-clamped to a table top. Those would not work for me. That narrowed down the field as well. I need to clamp both ends of the keel of my 48" model ship to a fixture that will allow me to move the ship around while I work on various parts of the ship. That's what the model 301's will be used for - attached to either ends of a 1" thick MDF base.
This 201 will be used to hold individual smaller parts while I'm working on them - masts, spars and the like.
Expensive compared to the off-shore models offered in great numbers at this site? Yes, they are.
Worth every penny? Indeed!
