Nick: While I am a carpenter, I didn't feel like making wood blocks to change out my metal vice grip jaws because then I'd have metal jaws laying around somewhere in my tool box. These just magnetize on and you get a flat side(good for wood and not leaving teeth marks) and a ribbed side to hold dowels better. I needed the flat side so I'm happy to have another useful side and an easy solution to pulling things apart to have its pieces laying around
