B8001: I bought the 4.5" version and it's a significant upgrade from the one that it replaced, but that's not saying much. The one it replaced was a 20 year old 3.5" bottom of the barrel cheapo from a freight store that rhymes with arbor. With that said, out of the box this new vise was sticking and making weird springing sounds as I opened and closed the vice jaws. After opening and closing it several times, it seemed to clear up and is no longer making the weird noises and it's no longer as sticky as it was out of the box. It still won't open to the full 5" without manually pulling the jaw back from about the 4" point. Additionally, the casting is a little rough and the base isn't even close to square and looks out of alignment attached to my bench. I plan to keep it because it's still an upgrade over the one that it replaced and it's too much of a pain to return things. I will likely will choose a different brand next time.

Robert C.Robert C.: This is the perfect size for mounting on a receiver hitch and not too heavy to reposition on my homemade shop press . Side in slide out . I did not want this in a permanent location. This will mount on the front or back of my jeep. I had one made in cast iron but it didn't last. I'm pretty sure this will do what I want it to do.
