addictedwithamazonaddictedwithamazon: Super love this book. Self help book but it seems like am talking to a psychologist without seeing one. I thank the authors and Amazon for this book. The “FORGIVE” workbook, I bought right after reading less than a chapter of this book. Highly recommended for those who gets angry easily.

Tal Vilenski: I wish I was made aware that almost every page of this book expresses Christian content and not being a Christian this is uncomfortable. This really should be marketed as a Christian Self Help book and may be helpful to people with strong Christian beliefs but personally it was too distracting for me to sift through Christian content to mine the nuggets.

Happigail: The book has super practical and beneficial advice. The chapter scenarios are realistic, but his example dialogues/characters are cheesily written, which makes it harder to relate. But if you can see past that fault without mocking it, there's a wealth of good advice to learn from.

Tom Triumph: It's pretty Christian. I was given Carter's book "The Anger Trap" by my wife and it was if he had listened in on every argument and conversation we have had--I cannot recommend that book enough and revisit it often. But, because I was having trouble actually controlling my anger (as opposed to understanding it) I thought a workbook would help. It did.
The workbook is not at all like his "Anger Trap", though.
It talks to you like you're an idiot. Whereas "The Anger Trap" felt pretty in-depth in its analysis of how anger works and manifests itself, and the case studies were approachable yet realistic, the workbook offers one-dimensional characters. I think they do this so you can focus on that specific element of anger, but it is a bit off-putting at the start. Be warned.
It's also very Christian. Others have noted that the use of scripture is not always relevant to the step, and I agree. In "The Anger Trap" the references are minimal. Having some familiarity with 12 step I see and agree with the need to recognize a "higher power", if only to recognize that we can control some things and not others. Carter uses a Christian one while you might use "fate" or...

E. D. Hance: I have used the 1992 version for prior classes. Now I am using the 2012 version. I ordered 9 new books for my current class and paid for the books out of my own pocket. I am retired and this is a volunteer project for me. Some of my men complained that there were too many Bible references in the old version and that it was too preachy. The new version has the same principles but it seems to be more secular with fewer Bible references. I do not have violent criminal defendants in my class. I do have men who have suffered hardships as children and addictions as adults and have long histories of problems with females and employers. This book explains the causes of anger and gives suggestions on how to reduce the triggers to avoid getting angry in the first place. This book has practical advice that anyone could use to improve his life. I tell my men I am using this book to teach an Anger Anonymous class. AA has 12 steps and this book has 13. The men learn that they must change their thinking before they can change their behavior. In the end a group of men get together once a week to share stories about their anger and discuss ways they can improve their lives. Every week I can see...
