Adam: I bought this for my niece who has been having angry out bursts and breakdowns. She has been dealing with some adult issues recently and I wanted to find a way to help her better understand herself and others around her.
She couldn't get enough of this book. Her mother is wonderful and worked with her and says it got her to begin understanding how anger feels vs other emotions, how she acts and what alternatives she can use when angry about something. It also helped her understand anger in others and realized she was misunderstanding how others were reacting to her.
She's a wonderful 8 year old who is very aware of what is happening around her but just needed some direction on what it means to her emotionally and have her options on how to cope the best she can.
I highly recommend this book! Kids are full of questions and we're should be the ones to help guide them. If you don't know how, use resources like there's or inquire with others but first and foremost, listen to what your kids are saying about the world around them and engage in conversation. The most impressionable years on their lives are up to age 7. Take advantage and communicate.
Best of luck...

RAR: Wow, I didn't realize this book would help us as much as it did. My 7-year-old son had always had anger issues. He is developmentally behind on frustration management and flexibility. We have spent years with daily explosions that often involve physical expression. He is a very sweet kid, just hasn't known how to deal with his anger and frustration. We have read every thing we can find on the subject and nothing ever helps. This book was my last attempt before seeking professional help. We have been doing it 2-3 times a week for four months. The first chapters taught us about anger, which was helpful, but didn't really solve our explosion issues. As we have gotten into the later chapters, though, there has been a huge difference in my son's ability to manage his feelings. We went from daily explosions to almost none in the last two months. My son still gets angry, but more often can calm himself before it escalates into uncontrollable rage. This book has taught us so much and has been a life saver. My whole family is happier. I highly recommend trying this book!

Ariana: Takes a lot to get an angry-prone 8 year old (violence, insults, yelling when triggered that is) to sit down and do this, but the CBT-based exercises have really worked wonders. The key is committing some one on one time with my son for a couple hours, as daily as possible, to help him through the exercises. Although he opposes doing the workbook every time, by the end of it he's giving me lots of hugs and kisses and telling me in different ways he knows it's good for him. My partner does it with him too and I'd have to say it's helping the whole family generally express ourselves better! Just fyi- I am a domestic violence survivor and he was exposed to all that trauma from utero to 2.5 years of age. We've been through therapy and I've helped him at home by immersing myself in techniques, PCIT, theraplay, etc but now that he's getting older a more logical book like this has been a wonderful edition and I see light at the end of the tunnel. I consider myself an authoritative parent and I have a child two years younger who was not so exposed to DV and as a gage my "normal" parenting works much easier on a kid with considerably less PTSD, so the workbook has, in a way, helped my...

Alex: This book is wonderful.
I am in desperate need of help to manage angry outbursts of my 9 yo, but didn’t want to go as far as external help. I know what the issues are ( Covid, new school, 11 plus) but I didn’t know how to fix it- it’s incredible how little control we have over our children’s’ lives...
This book offers good old fashioned CBT, but written in the language the 9yo can understand. We do the exercises together and it really gives me an insight into my son’s thinking eg- what stresses him out the most about the school is all the new rules and he gets really bad headache when he’s angry ( which is probably making each episode even worse). I realised it might be a generalisation, but I think a lot of boys this age are not able to recognise their feelings and this book creates an ideal platform for exploring them. This morning my son woke me up, book in hand asking: “ Can we do a bit more of the anger book?”
You will need to put some time aside for it though, when you are not rushed and they are not tired. But I highly recommend it if you are struggling, which I know a lot of parents are at the moment.
