Adrianna Krzoska: Really great book, fans of the Vikings Amazon show will find that it holds the same style of universe and environment but ofcourse with a female protagonist and narrative and a really really interesting story. I’ve ordered the next ones in the series before I even finished this one!

The village is being attacked in the middle of the night 🌙. The granddaughter of the chief raises the alarm and the attackers are defeated. The chief is mad 😠 with the granddaughter as he is all the time. This is a novel about Valhalla, Odin, Thor, and friends and family adventure with lots of action, misdirection, and violence as the granddaughter learns about her family.

I look forward to the next book in the series.

Diana Kassavetis: The story of Hervor the shield maiden inspires the story of Tolkien’s Eowyn, shield maiden caring for an ensorceled King. Hervor is denied her desire to become a shield maiden by her grandfather who hates her for his weakness.
The author paints a convincing picture of life in a Viking’s hall, with an accent on the worship of their gods. To say more would spoil your reading of the story. But the story is worth the reading.

Amazon Customer: Quality writing and research, a character driven story engaging from first to last page. Atmospheric descriptive intelligent with a real feel for time and place. Starts with a terrific action sequence but no more to follow hence four not five stars. A story of betrayal conspiracy love and loss, even a God makes an appearance.

P. Matthews: This is well written with well described emotions and angst. The FMC is well worth our time and the story has a strong sense of time and place.

Ilona Nurmela: Though Hervor is the grandchild of the jarl (local lord) and saves heir entire family (includin him) during a surprise attack, she is shunned in her own home because her mother has lost her wits and nobody knows who her father is. The jarl knows, but he isn’t telling. Treated as if she’s cursed, Hervor perseveres a d trains to be a shiled-maiden. When the King arrives for a festival with his only son, things get interesting.

The secret of Hervor’s parentage kept me turning the pages. The style makes me want to read the next book. Hervor’s unbending spirit made me marvel at hers and other great characters. I loved how Eydis’ offhand comments were, in fact, prophecies. The whole subject of Völvas (seers) in Nordic/Viking culture is fascinating. As is the existence of shield-maidens (in life; who become Valkyries in death).

An enjoyable read that I’d thoroughly recommend for lovers of Nordic myths & legends and NA medieval Viking fantasy. There’s a good reason this book is Nr #1 in mythology & medieval historical romance and #2 in historical fantasy. (And it’s nil dubloons on Zon at the mo.)

Katz: Love this series. Those that go against the will of God's with their treachery find actions paid in full. That was my thoughts of ending of Strawberry moon as severely injured Jarl came back to kings hall after losing all of his men & most of kings with Freyr taking 6 full boats down & all of treasure won fair or foul. Hunger moon brings Svafa witless with no memory of her husband the berserker Angantyr or his eleven slain brothers & best friend princess Ingeborg dead but her amber eyed baby Hervor grows. She is disposed by her grandfather the Jarl whose afraid of her & treats her like a dog. When a king come to their Blot & his son wishes her marriage he acts. After almost killing her she is turned out & Kong & is son given lies. When he leaves hall to battle nearest Jarl deep winter settles. A stranger comes to hall for shelter & when taken in gives illumination to all at dinner and die have been cast.
By old way you never turned a stranger away from shelter or hospitality as you never knew who you might be dealing with.

Charlie: I believe I have found an author to follow. It is not often I enjoy a book as much when it was just purchased as "first in series is free". They are often short and disappointing. This was neither.
I look forward to following Hervor on her adventures.
(Blurb was right, I enjoyed 'vikings' and pictured many book scenes in those I has seen from the show, same vibe)
